Since the end of 2021, the Women's Union of Phu Tho Ward in Thu Dau Mot City has launched the "Godmother" program. This initiative aims to mobilize individuals and women's groups to provide support for children facing particularly difficult circumstances, especially orphans affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Throughout its operation, the program has not only offered material assistance but has also provided spiritual encouragement, helping children find the motivation to overcome challenges and improve their lives.

Many meaningful activities
In recent years, the "Godmother" program organized by Women's Union of Phu Tho ward has brought about practical results. The program's beneficiaries are children whose parents, father or mother, have died due to the Covid-19 epidemic, are in difficult circumstances, have no place to rely on, or are orphans due to various reasons.
Initially, the program began with two mothers sponsoring and supporting four orphans. Over time, it has truly touched the hearts of kind-hearted individuals. Many have recognized that it is essential to provide support to these children, who are among the most disadvantaged due to their orphan status. As a result, the program has gained momentum, attracting the attention and participation of numerous local leaders, members, and women.
With compassion and a willingness to help, many officials and community members have joined this initiative, eager to contribute their time and resources to assist these disadvantaged children in overcoming their circumstances and thriving. Ms. Truong Nguyet Hang, Vice President of the Women's Union of Ward 2, is one of the "godmothers" who participated in this program since its early days in the locality.
Before joining this program, Ms. Hang was well-known for her active involvement in social charity movements. Through these experiences, she gained a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those in unfortunate circumstances. In particular, after the Covid-19 pandemic, many families experienced significant loss; some children were left orphaned and had no one to rely on. Recognizing the hardships these children have endured, Ms. Hang felt compelled to find ways to support and assist them in their lives.
Therefore, when the "Godmother" program was implemented locally, Ms. Hang volunteered to regularly sponsor a family of 3 children who lost their father due to Covid-19. Up to now, these children are still being regularly sponsored by this godmother, each child receives 500,000 VND/month. Since 2022, recognizing that there are still children who have lost both parents in the locality, she has continued to sponsor two additional children who are orphans.
To spread the love
An orphanage represents a significant source of pain for children, a loss that cannot be compensated. This is especially true for those facing challenging circumstances, as their lives become even more difficult without their parents. However, the presence of "godmothers" who offer care and support can help these orphans feel loved. This emotional connection can ease some of their pain, help them overcome difficulties, and enable them to gradually rise above their challenges.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen, President of Women's Union of Phu Tho Ward, stated that all orphans in the area are now benefiting from this sponsorship program. Currently, there are seven branches working with seven mothers to support ten orphans. These children come from poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households. Branches without orphans are encouraged to collaborate with others to ensure the best support for the children. Each child receives 500,000 VND per month, which can be provided in the form of necessary items or cash. Additionally, when the children face difficulties in life or during national holidays, they receive support from their sponsors. Benefactors are also encouraged to offer gifts, both material and spiritual, to these children.
Over time, the program has not only provided orphans in the ward with "Godmothers," but it has also created a bridge of love that connects kind-hearted individuals to the children, accompanying them as they grow. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen stated that this is a very meaningful initiative aimed at supporting orphans and ensuring that they develop in a positive direction and helping them overcome difficulties and losses to achieve a better life.
“In the spirit of "No Orphan Left Behind," we are committed to ongoing reviews. If any household in the area has an orphan, the union will reach out to philanthropists who can participate in the upcoming "Godmother" program. This program aims to provide timely support and care for orphans, helping them to have a brighter future filled with love,” said Ms. Tuyen.
