Steadfast in Covid-19 hotspot

During the fourth Covid-19 wave, in order to cope with the increasing number of F0 cases, provincial health sector highly upheld the sense of responsibility, making efforts to quickly implement synchronous solutions from tracing to isolation, testing, vaccination to collection and treatment. In the Covid-19 hotspot, doctors, medical workers truly become frontline soldiers in protecting people's lives and health.

Synchronous deployment of solutions

In late April 2021, Covid-19 pandemic began breaking out across the province. The province's health sector was proactive to implement synchronous solutions from tracing, isolation, testing, and vaccination to collection and treatment. In the early stages of the pandemic, tracing and isolation tasks were enhanced. When the pandemic spread, this solution was still maintained. But, priority decreased, due to the implementation of F1 isolation at home and social distancing.

Along with tracing activities, the health sector increased testing capacity with an increase in scale through each pandemic phase. The sector was proactive to effectively combine rapid antigen testing with RT-PCR testing, pooling samples under the method of 3, 5, 10 samples to increase testing speed and reduce costs. Sampling activities were actively screened by the sector in high-risk areas such as medical facilities, industrial parks, production and business establishments, lodging facilities...

In the task of collection and treatment, the sector also synchronously deployed treatment solutions, established field hospitals, intensive care units (ICUs) and stratified treatment under the “3-storey tower” model, provided medical oxygen systems, especially liquid ones for hospitals, oxygen tanks for medical stations. In particular, the sector has implemented a controlled treatment program with the antiviral drug Molnupiravir for nearly 30,000 mild Covid-19 patients. Under the direction of provincial Party Standing Committee, the health sector accelerated the establishment of mobile medical stations in communes, wards and townships to help people access grassroots healthcare, contributing to reducing the number of severe cases and deaths.

Silent sacrifices

With the spirit of taking care of patients, doctor Huynh Huu Duc, Head of Di An Medical Center’s Internal Ward who is in charge of the Covid-19 treatment area at the dormitory of Vietnam National University in HCM city was tested positive twice with lung damage. But, he has still volunteered to participate in treatment on the 2nd floor. Doctor Duc's wife, Nguyen Thi Loan, a bachelor of nursing was enthusiastic to take part in the local fight against Covid-19 and was also infected with SARS-Cov-2 virus. The image of German doctor's family is a noble symbol of a white-robed soldier with the noble mission of “a good doctor is like an affectionate mother”…

Doctor Huynh Thi Nguyet Phuong, Director of Thuan An city’s Medical Center said that the city’s medical staff faced a lot of hardships after nearly 6 months of Covid-19 prevention and control. Sampling and testing teams worked continuously in sweat-soaked protective suits. They were very exhausted with wrinkled hands, due to having to wear gloves. “Although being hard and dangerous with a high risk of infection, they still worked hard. Especially, doctors and nurses in the intensive care room had to change diapers for patients and feed patients", said doctor Phuong.

To help Covid-19 patients get good recovery, doctor Do Thanh Liem, Deputy Director of Phu Giao district’s Medical Center, Head of the Covid-19 treatment area in the Block 2 under Thoi Hoa Covid-19 treatment facility in Ben Cat town together with doctors and nurses here also become psychologists, treating patients as their own relatives. Doctor Liem said: “When there were a lot of patients, I and my colleagues hardly had any time for ourselves. We spun like a pin wheel with controlling infections, monitoring patient health, taking samples for testing and taking advantage of time to transport rice and food to each patient... After finishing, we had quick lunch at 14 p.m”. For doctor Liem, each patient's recovery was the motivation for medical staff to overcome difficulties and try harder in the care and treatment of patients.

Also from doctors, nurses’ spirit of sacrifice for the people's health of the medical team, many F0 cases have overcome death and returned to reunite with their families. Many people have deeply engraved the image of soldiers in white blouses. Phan Van Be who used to be treated at the Covid-19 patient treatment area in Di An city said: “I was infected by Covid-19 seriously. But thanks to doctors’ dedicated help, I overcame my critical illness. I will remember this life saving grace for the rest of my life”.
