In recent years, the advancement of scientific research and the implementation of STEM in education have garnered the active involvement of numerous students and educators. Through these initiatives, we seek to foster students' creativity and their capacity to apply knowledge in real-world contexts.

Integrating STEM into educational institutions

In recent years, the education and training sector has concentrated on the trend of STEM education for students. This approach is not confined to high school students; rather, it has broadened to encompass all levels of education.

To provide teachers and students with enhanced opportunities to engage with science and technology, to ignite their enthusiasm for research, and to apply knowledge practically, Binh Duong is committed to advancing STEM education in schools through various initiatives. In the 2024-2025 academic year, in accordance with the guidance of the Department of Education and Training, localities have organized STEM festivals for students across all grade levels.

At STEM festivals, students have the opportunity to create their own innovative tools. This event also allows students to engage in captivating physics experiments, program robots, develop technological products, and undertake practical projects. These activities not only ignite a passion for science but also foster teamwork, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.

Additionally, delegates, educators, and students were introduced to various units and enterprises engaged in the field of science and technology, offering service solutions for the digital transformation of education. During this event, universities and colleges in the province showcased products, models, Robocon innovations, STEM/STEAM robotics products, and related topics including digital transformation, artificial intelligence, Robocon, scientific innovation, and smart educational products.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tan Anh, Head of the Department of Education and Training for Bac Tan Uyen district, the Department organized a digital transformation and STEM education festival for the 2024-2025 academic year in early 2025. This festival serves as a platform for teachers and students from various schools to exchange and share experiences and initiatives related to the application of information technology and STEM in management, teaching, and learning. Additionally, it provides students with the opportunity to engage in creative expression through their products and projects, thereby igniting their passion for learning and scientific exploration, which contributes to enhancing the quality of comprehensive education in the district and Binh Duong province as a whole.

To further advance the effectiveness of STEM education and progressively incorporate STEM into schools, the Department of Education and Training is actively collaborating with universities, businesses, and educational organizations to enhance the scale and quality of STEM festivals, while simultaneously integrating STEM into the official curriculum.

Platform for emerging talent

In conjunction with the gradual integration of STEM into the educational curriculum, Department of Education and Training of Binh Duong organizes Science and Technology (S&T) competitions at various levels. These competitions provide a platform for students to showcase their creative ideas and apply scientific principles to real-life situations. Additionally, S&T competitions serve as a significant motivator for students to cultivate their research interests. From this initiative, Binh Duong has produced numerous projects that have garnered prestigious awards at provincial, national, and international competitions.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, stated that the Science and Technology Competition for high school students is a significant and pivotal event within the education and training sector aimed at identifying students with a fervor for science. This competition provides students with a platform to showcase their creative passions, expand their knowledge, and contribute to the advancement of Science and Technology in Binh Duong province.

In each competition, the products are meticulously crafted, with some items being developed with considerable detail and enthusiasm. This showcases a passion for creativity, an interest in science and technology, and the integration of knowledge with practical application by the students.

The competition serves as a valuable intellectual arena, drawing the interest of educational institutions and encouraging a significant number of students to engage. Nguyen Tan Phat, a student at Dau Tieng High School, remarked: “This is my first experience participating in a provincial science and technology competition. I find it to be an exceptionally beneficial environment that allows us to transform our theoretical projects into tangible realities, applying the knowledge we have acquired to address practical challenges in life. This, in turn, fosters a greater enthusiasm for learning among students. It is not merely an intellectual arena but also a crucial stepping stone for us to achieve our aspirations, serving as a motivation for students to engage in research and innovation, thereby contributing to the advancement of science and technology and the development of our homeland.”

Arousing and nurturing students’ passion for scientific creativity not only fosters their cognitive development but also plays a vital role in the nation’s future progress. Investing in STEM education not only enables Binh Duong to cultivate generations of talented students but also aids in the establishment of a high-quality workforce, prepared to address the demands of future industrial and technological advancements. With deliberate strides, Binh Duong is steadily asserting its status as one of the foremost regions in creative and innovative education.

STEM is an instructional approach designed to provide students with scientific knowledge connected to practical applications

STEM is an English acronym representing four disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Currently, this approach has been expanded to include an art component, resulting in the term STEAM.

Thus, STEM represents an educational model characterized by an interdisciplinary approach. Rather than studying each subject in isolation, STEM integrates knowledge from various fields, merging theory with practice. This methodology fosters multidimensional thinking, enabling children to gain a comprehensive understanding of the problem's origins through auditory, visual, and hands-on experiences.

STEM is a progressive educational approach that cultivates skills associated with four disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
