Strengthening communication, support for improving reproductive health care, family planning services for people, especially couples of reproductive age, has been the main goal of communication campaign integrated with reproductive health care, family planning services in 2015 launched recently by provincial Population - Family Planning Bureau among populated areas, areas with high birth rates, areas having many migrants, and poor areas in the province.
Doctor Nguyen Van Tham, Deputy Head of provincial Population - Family Planning Bureau, said, this year’s campaign was implemented at 18 communes, wards of 9 districts, towns and city. Each district, town and city selected 2 communes with high birth rates, poor conditions, or having many migrants to deploy the campaign that must fulfill annual targets, namely: Sterilization to achieve 50% annual target; Other contraceptive methods to achieve 60% target; 90% couples of reproductive age in the area to receive adequate information, consultation about reproductive health care, family planning; providing reproductive health care, family planning information and services for couples of reproductive age, adolescents and young people in the area; giving gynecological examination to 60% objects, common gynecological treatment to 50% objects.
Propaganda to raise people’s awareness of population and family planning.
The campaign happened during September with main activities, like: listing persons registering for reproductive health care, family planning services; organizing propaganda activities and providing reproductive health care, family planning services at selected localities. To ensure the success of the campaign, provincial Department of Health also directed units to supply medical staff, equipment to the campaign. Campaign steering committees at provincial, district and communal level were also established to organize the implementation and monitor activities.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huong, Deputy Head of Communication Education board under provincial Population - Family Planning Bureau, said, propaganda must be executed at all levels in order for people to understand and take part enthusiastically in the campaign. At provincial level, propaganda activities were carried out in many forms through mass media, community-based consultations to improve service quality, provide necessary knowledge for objects, especially at lodging houses.
At district level, apart from communication channels in the areas, thematic talks, cultural shows were held at residential areas. Population commission introduced locations providing reproductive health care, family planning services to migrants, gave consultancy via telephone, mail, and community-based counseling to convey messages to objects, encourage directly objects, couples to take family planning measures. In particular, districts focused on gathering people to disseminate the campaign in order to improve people’s awareness, change reproductive, family planning behaviors of people, and emphasize urgent family planning issues.
Communes implementing the campaign organized activities in many forms, such as: propaganda, radio propaganda, hanging banners, posters, delivering leaflets... In addition, campaign activities were also integrated into meetings of population clubs and lodging house groups to increase awareness of objects.
Provincial population sector prepared carefully, especially propaganda activities, in order for the campaign to implement successfully. However, the participation of the whole community including propaganda forces, service providers and all people strata, was in need to change awareness, attitudes and behaviors of those of reproductive age.
