Perceiving the significance of union branches in strengthening the Union, provincial Women’s Union has launched many activities towards its grassroots level.
From exemplary union branches…
Binh An hamlet under An Binh commune in Phu Giao district is a large locality but sparsely populated, which is a difficulty while gathering women for activities. Nevertheless, local Women’s Union branch persuaded 172 out of 194 women to join the organization. This is an ideal proportion to a branch.
Meetings are held monthly at branches. Ms. Pham Thi Tinh, head of Binh An hamlet Women’ Union branch, said: “Various meetings and activities have been held to absorb female members”.
The branch has many activities to aid disadvantaged members, such as: “growing piggy banks” to help poor members, women groups having same interests, capital rotation group, etc.
For example, the branch helped widow Le Thi Bay having difficult circumstance to take out loans to develop her own business. At the present, her family’s living standard is improved; her children are able to go to school.
According to Ms. Pham Thi Tinh, gathering women for activities is not an easy task. In 2009, the branch had only 48 members. Thus members had to go from door to door to mobilize new members. As a result, after one month, there were 102 new members joining the branch.
Similarly, Women’s Union branch at Thanh Loi quarter under An Thanh ward in Thuan An town has had many effective activities, for example, growing banana trees for leaves, capital rotation group, etc. helping members to improve their income. In addition, the branch maintains a fund to visit and support women having sick family members, reading news at each periodic meeting, and so on. The branch has now 910 female members.

Provincial Women’s Union has organized many activities to support its grassroots levels, such as: excellent female branch leader contest, assigning cadres to branches to learn about reality, feelings and thoughts of members.
Particularly, the contest of excellent branch leader 2014 had 86 female contestants from 600 branches. At the contest, a question was asked, how to build up an excellent branch. Thereby, many issues were analyzed to infer lessons.
According to Ms. Pham Thi Tinh, a branch leader has to engage enthusiastically in branch activities. Branches must develop many models and activities that are appropriate to women.
Ms. Le Thi Quyen, Women’ Union branch of Ba Da hamlet, Tan Dinh commune in North Tan Uyen district, believed that a branch cadre has to had wide knowledge to solve members’ concerns swiftly. In addition, solidarity has to be enhanced within a branch. Especially, branches have to be able to mobilize capital in order to support disadvantaged members.
Provincial Women’s Union took notice of opinions and devised plans to assist cadres in constructing a strong union.
