National Highway 13, a strategic road in the past underwent many bombs and bullets to join our army and people in making resounding victories, contributing to the victory in the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign on April 30, 1975. Following the role of strategic infrastructure, trade connection, today National Highway 13 has created a driving force for economic development not only for Binh Duong, but also for other provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh city, Binh Phuoc...
In the exciting atmosphere of the historic April days, Binh Duong organizes a groundbreaking ceremony for the project of upgrading and expanding National Highway 13 at the section bordering Ho Chi Minh city to Thu Dau Mot city from 6 lanes to 8 lanes. Over the past years, National Highway 13 contributed to helping Binh Duong become a locality with strong points in domestic and foreign investment attraction. Although being upgraded many times, with economic development, mechanical population and demand for circulation and transportation on increase, National Highway 13 is overcrowded, often congested at the section passing through Thu Dau Mot city and Thuan An city. Some road parts are flooded during heavy rains and storms, so they need to be renovated soon. Continuing the local strategy on transport infrastructure that must go first, creating breakthroughs, the expanded National Highway 13 project will create a driving force for the local socio-economic development at two big goals on relieving traffic pressure and developing urban infrastructure in the new period.
It is remembered that during the local development and construction process, leaders of Song Be - Binh Duong over years have determined the most importance of traffic infrastructure, in which National Highway 13 is considered as the "backbone" in the local traffic infrastructure system. This is because it is not only the lifeline of the province, but also the connection and spread so that neighboring localities can enjout benefit together. Therefore, there was a story related to the province asking the Government for a mechanism to upgrade National Highway 13 with 8 lanes under the BOT form, but the province was only allowed to make 6 lanes, which took place for decades and is still mentioned. This shows that how important the role of National Highway 13 is to the socio-economic development of the province and the region. It is also the vision and stance of the previous generations during the local renewal and construction process.
With its scale, the project of upgrading and expanding National Highway 13 will contribute to building Binh Duong into a civilized and modern city of the Southern Key Economic Region, with great pervasion, strongly impacting on surrounding areas. Thus, National Highway 13 has become a symbol of victory, will and aspiration to fly further.
