Taking good care of worker’s children

Due to many given incentives, Binh Duong province has been an attractive destination to workers. All levels, sectors, and trade unions have taken good care of not only workers but also their children. This has motivated better workers, strengthened workers’ commitments to their company and Binh Duong land.

From a compassionate class

We visited a compassionate class in An Phu Ward, Thuan An Town in the afternoon, while it was raining heavily. Groups of small kid went under a dark blue raincoat with one hand holding the raincoat, one hand covering their nylon bag of notebooks and textbooks. Although it rained heavily, the class began on time. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, head of Youth Association - teacher of the class, said this class had been established in 2008 and borrowed the facility of 1B Quarter office for learning. Most pupils are poor worker’s children cannot afford studying at school but still wanting to learn. Many pupils have to sell lottery tickets, shoeshine… in daytime to earn money and learn diligently in evening.

Worker’s children with difficult circumstances took part in a compassionate class at An Phu Ward, Thuan An Town

Although it is a compassionate class, pupils abide well by all class regulations. 36 students of the class are divided into 5 different groups from grade 1 to grade 5. With a desire to be literate, they try hard to study, have not skipped any classes. They learn mainly Math and Vietnamese linguistics. Ms. Ngoc usually plans lessons in a small notebook for each subject and student group. On Sunday, she also went to each lodging room to encourage families to take their children to the class.

Joining hands to share

Authorities and trade unions in the province have identified caring for worker’s children as a duty of the whole society, thus have organized many practical activities for the children. Typically, Yazaki Eds Vietnam’s Trade Union (Di An Town) established “Solidarity fund" to help disadvantaged and seriously sick children. Recently, the foundation has helped Nguyen Thi Ngoc Linh (born in 2014), who is a child of worker Nguyen Thi Ngoc My and is suffering a retinoblastoma; and Le Ngoc Gia Linh, who is a child of worker Dang Thi Ngoc Anh and has a brain injury. Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Nhung, Chairman of the trade union, said: “Due to the pitiful situation of the two children, the trade union raised money to support their treatment and received active responses from all employees. After one month, we collected more than VND103 million to support Nguyen Thi Ngoc Linh and more than VND105 million to support Le Ngoc Gia Linh".

Trade Union of Vietnam Foster Electronics Company also organizes regular visits to worker’s children in difficult circumstance. For example, worker Nguyen Van Cuong has a difficult circumstance, his 17-month-old son is suffering a congenital heart disease of level 4. Impoverished family, his wife must stay at home to take care of his son, so he is burdened himself with all costs of living and medications of the son. Having a compassion for his family circumstance, the Trade Union called on people to join hands to share the difficulties. The collected money was not much, but expressed the concern, the sympathy of all people with a difficult circumstance.

Mr. Bui Thanh Nhan, Chairman of provincial Labor Federation, said, taking care of workers were not only focusing on the workers but also paying attention to their children to encourage workers. Therefore, provincial Labor Federation has counseled, encouraged grassroots-level trade unions to organize more practical activities to take good care of material, spiritual life of worker’s children. Notably, the construction of childcare facilities for worker’s children. In fact, many businesses have developed and maintained well this model. Currently, provincial Labor Federation proposed PPC to build up cultural centers in districts, towns with many workers; inaugurate a kindergarten for worker’s children in Ben Cat Town…
