Two rivers, Dong Nai and Song Be, now run through Tan Uyen’s 11 communes and townships, including Tan Dinh, Hieu Liem, Lac An, Thuong Tan, Tan My, Uyen Hung, Bach Dang, Khanh Binh, Thanh Hoi, Thanh Phuoc and Thai Hoa. They are of great significance for the local people’s waterway transport and production.
The whole district now has 12 ferry stations to serve the local people’s demand for traveling. Over the past time, there was a complicated development about waterway accidents. Statistics show that more than 3,500 children around the country die from drowning each year, accounting for more than half of all child deaths.
The district’s waterway traffic safety was always ensured over the past years. The result came from the efforts by the local authorities. There was also a good implementation on the State’s regulations relating to waterway safety from those who have got involved in activities of waterway transport.
According to Doan Hong Tuoi, Vice-Chairman of Tan Uyen district’s People’s Committee, the district will further promote the Action Program on Water Safety for Children to raise public awareness of and responsibility for creating a safe waterway environment for children. The district will mobilize resources and improve co-ordination between relevant authorities, agencies, and communities to prevent avoidable tragedies from happening in association with the campaign “Traffic Culture for Waterway Transport Safety”.
The district’s education sector and Youth Union will speed up propaganda activities to raise the local youth’s awareness of implementation of safe measures when getting involved in waterway transport activities. The district’s Urban Management Division and Safety Board Committees of communes and townships along two rivers Dong Nai and Song Be will actively give advice to the local authorities about safe measures for those living along the banks of the two rivers, especially during the rainy season.
Owners of the local ferry stations will be also reminded to ensure waterway transport safety. In addition, the local people also need to well observe the State’s regulations on waterway transport safety, protecting themselves and contributing to building a civilized lifestyle and traffic culture on waterway.
