Pham Thi Ngoc in Tuong Binh Hiep ward’s quarter 7 in TDM city has never felt happy like this. Although living in a new house one week ago, she has still thought this being a dream. The “red cross” house covers nearly 50 square meters with a total construction cost of VND60million, including VND40million mobilized from Anh Long Private Enterprise and the remainder from her family. Presenting the “red cross” house to the woman with extremely difficult circumstance in housing contributed to helping her family rise up in life. She said: “Owning such house is too lucky for me. And now, I only have to be interested in and devoted to her work to be able to quickly get a stable life”.

Regarding the model of “red cross” housing construction, Vo Van Ket, Chairman of TDM city’s Red Cross Society said that “red cross” houses are the important premise for poor households to rise up in life. For that reason, building “red cross” houses is one of models widely multiplied with vigorous development in the city. Over the past five years, the city’s Red Cross Society built 8 “red cross” houses and upgraded 2 ones with a total expense of more than VND260million.
Diversified support activities
Along with constructing and upgrading “red cross” houses for the poor, TDM city’s Red Cross Society has carried out many effective support models for the poor, namely “Volunteers’ Club”, “Charity rice jar”, “Tet for the poor”, “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address”…
Especially, the “Offering help to poor-but-excellent pupils” model is being organized across the city on the occasion of the new academic year. The ward’s Red Cross Society has just awarded gifts worth VND6million to 50 orphans with good academic results in the 2015-2016 academic year. Or, Hiep An ward’s Red Cross Society has also coordinated with Phuoc Hung pagoda to present 50 scholarships worth VND12.5million to the local poor pupils.
Mr.Ket said that although having small value, but these gifts were a great encouragement for needy pupils, helping them surmount difficulties and further pursue their learning in order to become obedient children, good pupils and useful citizens. Over the past five years, the city’s Red Cross Society mobilized nearly VND20billion, offering help to more than 70,252 needy cases or 220% of the set plan.
