Tet for the poor
Donors are very busy with a new charity season when the 2014 Tet (Lunar New Year) festival is approaching. TDM city’s Red Cross Society is mobilizing organizations and individuals to join hands in taking care of the poor during the 2014 Tet festival, according to society vice-chairman Nguyen Minh Hoa.
Over the past time, TDM city’s Red Cross Society well realized the “Tet for the poor” program. Particularly, the city’s Red Cross Societies at all levels in the last Tet festival mobilized organizations and individuals to present more than 4,200 Tet gifts worth nearly VND1.2bln to the poor, the disabled and pupils with difficulties.
Vo Van Nghe, a poor resident in Tuong Binh Hiep commune’s hamlet 1 said that the life of his family has so far got better than the previous time. In a house just donated by the State, he said: “My family is one of the commune’s poor households. And I cannot do any things to earn my living, due to a loss of strength. This makes me feel very sad. But thanks to the attention and help of the local authorities and mass organizations, I feel more secure. Especially, I receive gifts full of significance on the occasion of the annual Tet festival”.
According to Mr.Hoa, TDM city’s Red Cross Society this year has been assigned a target of mobilizing 3,500 Tet gifts for the poor. To achieve the target, the city’s Red Cross Society has instructed its affiliates to focus on mobilizing organizations and individuals to make contributions to the poor so that they can enjoy a warm Tet.
All people getting involved in charity activities…
Not only bringing a cosy Tet to all people, but TDM city’s Red Cross Society over the past time promoted the movement of “All people and households get involved in social charity activities” with the goal of offering timely and direct assistance to those with extremely difficult circumstances, helping them rise up and integrate into the community. The campaign of “Each organization, each individual should stick to a humanitarian address” was a typical example for the above movement.
Under the campaign of “Each organization, each individual should stick to a humanitarian address”, many support activities on production loans, experience in production and business…for those with extremely difficult circumstances such as victims of Agent Orange, natural disasters, disable people with difficulties, lonely elderly people, HIV/AIDS carriers…were implemented over the past time.
With the spirit of “Mutual love, mutual affection”, TDM city’s Red Cross Society over time acted as a bridge between donors and unfortunate people, helping them rise up and integrate into the community.
It is known that over the past five years, the city’s Red Cross Societies at all levels mobilized 39 collectives and 80 individuals to offer assistance of more than VND2.3bln to 6,885 poor people and those with extremely difficult circumstances. Many organizations and individuals also supported more than VND19bln in loan for 7,689 needy people to develop homebased business…
