Early February 28, provincial Red Cross Society held a conference to review its activities in 2016 and implement tasks for 2017, in attendance of Nguyen Thanh Liem, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Public Relations, Chairman of provincial Fatherland Front Committee.
Provincial Red Cross Societies at al levels last year focused on mobilizing organizations, individuals to offer help to the poor and Agent Orange (AO) victims. Particularly, the “Tet for the poor, AO victims” movement gave 49,773 Tet gifts worth more than VND16.8billion for disadvantaged people. The “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address” campaign offered help of nearly VND3.2billion to 1,833 addresses. They also provided aid of VND21.1billion for 71,237 poor people, policy beneficiary families and ethnic minority people; built 42 “red cross” houses worth VND2.1trillion; awarded 2,842 scholarships, 69 wheelchairs and 300 bicycles to disadvantaged people; teamed up with the HCM city-based Cho Ray’s Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center to collect 16,624 units of blood, equivalent to 5,818,400 milliliters of blood…
The conference also awarded 16 mementoes “For the cause of charity” of the Central Committee of Vietnam Red Society, the certificates of merit to 9 collectives and 39 individuals with excellent achievements in the local Red Cross movements last year.
