Tet care activities for policy beneficiary families

Each Tet season brings added joy to policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors in the province. Efforts to support this group have always been a priority, aiming at providing them with a warm and meaningful Tet.

Warming hearts of revolutionary contributors

Although there is more than a month left until the 2025 Tet (Lunar New Year) festival, Le Ngoc Loi, a revolutionary contributor living in Phu Hoa ward’s quarter 2 in Thu Dau Mot city and his wife, have taken the opportunity to prune down trees around their garden, taking care of flowers in time to welcome Tet. Mr. Loi shared that his family wants everything to be ready to welcome visits from provincial and local leaders. “Thanks to the care and support from provincial authorities at all levels, my family enjoys a full life like today”, Mr. Loi said.

According to Mr. Loi, efforts to support policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors in the locality have been excellent. Binh Duong has always implemented appropriate policies to assist each group and family, thereby helping them rise up in life. Mr. Loi spent many years as a soldier, fighting on various fronts in the Central Highlands, Cu Chi… After the country's reunification, he was affected by Agent Orange, which left him with poor health. However, thanks to the care and support of authorities, particularly at the local level, his family has been well looked after. As a result, their economic situation has got more stable and prosperous.

For Phan Thi Phi, the daughter of a martyr living in Tuong Binh Hiep ward’s quarter 5 in Thu Dau Mot city, her life has gradually stabilized since receiving support from local authorities to build a gratitude house, combined with her own efforts to rise up. Now, her family has opened a small convenience store and with additional support from her children, she and her husband no longer worry about basic needs like food and clothing as they did before. Our family was given a house and tables and chairs by the locality. On Tet and great holidays, we are visited, given gifts and good care, even with a health insurance card. Recently, I have had an opportunity to visit many provinces and cities across the country by provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DOLISA). The trip was organized very thoughtfully and I felt very happy", Mrs. Phi confided.

Nguyen Van Tanh, a 2/4 war invalid residing in My Phuoc ward’s quarter 1 in Ben Cat city shared: “Support for policy beneficiary families in our locality is not limited to Tet—it’s a continuous effort. Currently, there are very few policy beneficiary households with difficult circumstances, mostly those with illnesses or who are living alone. In general, any event or activity in the community prioritizes policy beneficiary households, which is truly heartwarming”.

Thoughtful Tet gifts

To ensure a thoughtful Tet celebration for tens of thousands of policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors across the province, provincial DOLISA annually directs localities to review eligible individuals, particularly those with difficult circumstances. Plans are then developed and submitted to provincial People's Council for approval, outlining Tet support policies in line with each group.

According to provincial DOLISA, during the 2024 (Lunar New Year) Tet festival, the province allocated over VND 52.4 billion to support and provide Tet gifts to 48,623 revolutionary contributors. Additionally, social mobilization efforts raised nearly VND4 billion to provide gifts for 7,031 individuals. Every year, social mobilization campaigns to support Tet care for policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors in communes and wards are implemented effectively and practically. On average, each commune or ward raises funds for hundreds of additional gifts, ensuring that disadvantaged policy beneficiary households can enjoy a more prosperous Tet. As observed by reporters, all communes and wards in the province have performed well in making mobilization efforts, preparing gifts and providing care for all policy beneficiary households during Tet.

Bui Ngoc Mai, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Phu Hoa ward in Thu Dau Mot city shared that every year, during the War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day on July 27 and Tet, the ward organizes thoughtful activities such as visiting and giving gifts to policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors, especially those with difficult circumstances. The ward’s People's Committee also assigns officials and Youth Union members to assist families, particularly those living alone, with such activities as cleaning and preparing their homes for Tet. They organize intimate meals and gatherings for policy beneficiary households to express gratitude and gain a deeper understanding of each family’s situation, ensuring timely support.

According to leaders of Phu Hoa Ward’s People's Committee, from mobilized funds, the locality annually distributes over 4,000 Tet gifts to disadvantaged individuals and workers staying in the area for Tet. Among them, there are hundreds of gifts for policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors.

Nguyen Trong Quoc, Chairman of the People's Committee of My Phuoc ward stated that in addition to mobilizing hundreds of Tet gifts for revolutionary contributors, the locality has scheduled visits to deliver gifts and extend Tet greetings to families in the coming days. The ward has also reviewed and identified households with difficult circumstances, lacking essential household items such as cabinets, tables and beds. Efforts are underway to mobilize resources for purchasing these items, which will be provided to the families before the 2025 Tet festival.

Meanwhile, in Tan Uyen city’s Khanh Binh ward, Tran Mai Tang, Vice Chairman of the ward’s People's Committee said that the locality has prepared more than 100 gifts for  policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors with difficult circumstances. It is expected that the ward will organize delegations to visit and encourage these families during Tet. The locality has also directed each quarter to grasp and review each family's situation, mobilizing socialization resources for additional care. Along with that, the ward’s People's Committee will organize care activities such as "Zero-dong market"; coordinate with relevant units to organize free medical examination and treatment, give away health insurance cards and support scholarships for children from policy beneficiary families...

For the 2025 Tet festival, the budget for Tet allowances for policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors  in the province is expected to increase compared to previous years. Nguyen Ngoc Hang, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs stated that the Tet allowances for 2025 will be on par with those for 2024, with the highest amount being VND 10 million (for heroic Vietnamese mothers) and the lowest at VND 1.3 million. However, this year, the province plans to include additional Tet allowances for two groups previously not covered: individuals who participated in the national liberation and defense missions in Laos, Cambodia and those who served as logistics personnel in frontline duties.
During the Lunar New Year every year, provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Fatherland Front Committee along with leaders of departments, sectors and People's Committees of districts, towns and cities form delegations pay visits to the families of policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors while presenting gifts and extending Tet greetings to them. The subjects who are visited are heroic Vietnamese mothers and those who are often sick, due to old age and poor health...
