As of now, provincial Red Cross Society has mobilized its Volunteers’ Club, businesses and donors to donate Tet gifts to the poor.
Starting provincial program named “Tet for the poor and AO victims” this year was a trip to visit and present 200 gifts wroth VND500,000 each, including rice, blankets, clothes, confectionary…and money to poor ethnic minority people in Chu Se district’s H’Bong commune in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai (photo). The trip was co-held by provincial Buddhist Sangha and the Volunteers’ Club of provincial Red Cross Society on Jan.5.
Luu Thi Nguyet Suong, vice-chairwoman of provincial Red Cross Society said that the whole society will mobilize 15,000 gifts worth VND3bln for the poor and Agent Orange (AO) victims on the Tet 2010. Beginning from Dec.17 of the Lunar Calendar, the society will carry out Tet gift visits to the poor and AO victims across the province.
Aside from Tet gift visits, provincial Red Cross Society has tried to be able to soon hand over houses of compassion to needy people on Tet. In 2009, the whole society mobilize organizations and individuals to build 58 houses of compassions worth more than VND1bln and upgrade 15 others with total cost of nearly VND65mln. Mrs.Suong said that the society lastly handed over 2 houses of compassion worth VND45mln to the poor in TDM town’s Chanh Nghia ward and Tan Uyen district’s Tan Dinh commune.
It is known that provincial program named “Tet for the poor and AO victims” has so far been implemented for 11 years with a total fund reaching around VND28bln. The number of gifts and money mobilized from organizations and individuals have increased every year, meaning that there have been more and more poor people and AO victims receiving the society’s help and attention to enjoy cozier Tet festivals.
