Thai PM committed to reshaping nation future

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has recently vowed to redefine the country’s future by combining its unique strengths with cutting-edge technology, to build a brighter future.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra speaks at a press conference on August 18

Speaking at the Bangkok Post Forum 2024, Paetongtarn said the nation's growth has relied on strategies on mass production and heavy industries in the past four decades, which are now posing challenges in keeping up with rapid globalisation.

Thailand’s potential lies not in following the paths of others but in leveraging what makes it truly exceptional, including its strategic location, abundant natural resources, and the creativity of its people, she highlighted.

According to the leader, its geographical location at the heart of Southeast Asia allows Thailand to become a hub for logistics, trade and exchange.

Meanwhile, the abundance of natural resources and cultural richness gives it unparalleled opportunities, Paetongtarn said.

Thailand has long been known as the ‘Kitchen of the World’, but now it is time to elevate this legacy even further, she said, adding that technologies can be applied to agriculture practices to boost quality and sustainability.

Paetongtarn also stressed the importance of technology in transforming the country, urging preparations for a tech-driven future boosted by data centres, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

She outlined strategies to drive Thailand towards a better future, including amendment of regulations to support businesses, human resources development, financial support for startups and innovators, and promote international standards for Thai products and services./.
