Thailand helps create memorial to President Ho Chi Minh

A memorial of more than 10,000 square metres dedicated to Vietnam’s late President Ho Chi Minh will be built in Thailand at Ban May village in Nakhon Phanom province.

A Vietnamese joint delegation of representatives from the Ho Chi Minh Museum, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited and worked on the detailed zoning plan for the Ho Chi Minh memorial with the provincial authorities in Thailand and the Vietnamese Association in the province from September 21-26.

The land for the complex is being provided by the Nakhon Phanom provincial government.

The Vice Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum, Nguyen Thuy Duc, said an important part of the complex will be a memorial room where overseas Vietnamese in Thailand can offer incense to ‘Uncle Ho’ during festivals and holidays. A ‘heritage house’ will be built to represent the period in 1928-1930 when Ho Chi Minh lived and worked in Thailand. A natural scene will also be created including the star fruit and coconut trees planted by Ho Chi Minh.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh memorial will be linked to the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Village by a short road.

Ms. Thuy Duc added that when the construction of the memorial is finished, the Ho Chi Minh Museum, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide supplementary information introducing the past, present and future ties between Vietnam and Thailand.

Vietnamese expatriates in Thailand have longed for a special place to offer incense in memory of ‘Uncle Ho’ on important Vietnamese occasions. This memorial will satisfy the demands of overseas Vietnamese in Thailand as well as foreign tourists who wish to learn about the time the great Vietnamese leader spent in the country.
