The members of Camp 979A, the special citizens

Those Cambodian refugees naturalized by order of State’s President only burst into happiness despite their being as locals of Minh Tan in Dau Tieng District. Once again, the members of notorious Camp 979A were welcome by Vietnam after wars. Integration “It’s joyful, much of happiness! Now, we are Vietnamese citizens, our dreams have come true,” said Mr. Lam Kim Ty, residing at Tan Phu Hamlet of Minh Tan Commune, upon the naturalization to Vietnamese nationality of the members of Camp 979A. A gold vendor is established by Chinese Cambodia at Minh Tan, Dau Tieng Ty said that local authority has facilitated administrative procedure transaction; however, various paper procedures including land-use right certificates or marriage certificates. However, naturalization has enabled easier paper work for household books and ID cards. For years of pending, by the end of 2011, State’s President signed decision on naturalization of Cambodian refugees at Minh Tan Commune of Dau Tieng District. Representatives of Department of Justice have visited the locality to hand over the decision. Dau Tieng District Police has coordinated with related agencies to register household books for newly naturalized people. As the refugee Camp No. 979A was dissolved together with international sponsorship, the refugees have faced various challenges needed help of local authority. Cambodian refugees have had more contacts with people outside. They have been engaged in various professions including merchandising. Overcoming barriers of language and traditions, local Cambodians expressed their business abilities. At first, they started up small shops before gathering to an area, the now Minh Tan Commune center for goods merchandising. Minh Tan Market Place was previously called USA market. La Son explained that the name was originated from the tradition of commodities received from USA and foreign countries at Camp No. 979A. Families have brought items sent by relatives to sell out to make ends meet. Building a new homeland No one could imagine such changes at the location of the then Camp No. 979A at Minh Tan Commune with straight and smooth asphalted roads siding with houses and restaurants. Mr. La Son emerges thanks to job as a tailor Mr. Hoang Van Thang, Deputy Chair of Fatherland Front Committee of Minh Tan Commune informed that the beautiful houses along DH704 at the central of commune were the constructions of refugees from Camp No. 979A. Currently, over 300 Chinese Cambodian families of over 1,000 people are residing at Tan Phu and Tan Duc. By the care and facilitation of all-level authorities, local Cambodians have emerged to overcome difficulties in life getting rich. Ty said that families of good economic backgrounds are now accounted for about 70% of local families. Mr. Pham Quang Khai, Secretary of Minh Tan Commune Party’s Committee informed that the provincial and district authorities have offered support to Chinese Cambodians locally. Families have been facilitated with business and production with arrangement for schooling of their children. Besides, the commune has called upon kind-hearted people to donate to support families in difficulties. Những “công dân mới” cũng rất tích cực tham gia xây dựng địa phương. The new citizens are now committed to construction of their locality by observing decisions and guides of the Party and State and active participation into emulation movements. “They are sociable, close and responsible for the community, especially participation into security and order of the hamlets and communes. Many families have become donators to support families in difficulties,” said Le Dinh Cu, a five-year head of Tan Phu Hamlet as talking about the new citizens.
