The province prepares facilities for back to school

Infrastructure is one of the determining factors for the quality of education. On the threshold of the new school year 2023-2024, localities in the province have increased investment in upgrading and repairing school facilities to serve teaching and learning, especially in increasingly "hot" localities in terms of schools and the number of students, such as: Thuan An city, Di An city, Ben Cat town, Thu Dau Mot city…

 Student number increases rapidly

Ben Cat Town is an area with many industrial zones and clusters. Therefore, the number of people from other localities coming to this town to live and work has increased rapidly, leading to an increasing number of students. In the new school year 2023-2024, it is expected that the number of students in the town would increase by about 3,000 students compared to the previous school year. Therefore, the preparation of school facilities and allocation of teachers is a top concern to the local government and education branch.

Tran Thi Thao, Vice Chairwoman of Ben Cat Town People's Committee, said that schools in the area are currently repairing facilities and procuring equipment for the new school year with local financial resources.  Before August 20, schools will complete repairs and purchase to promptly serve the new school year. In 2023, the town's People's Committee has funded shopping and repairing of schools with an expenditure of about VND16 billion. The Town People's Committee also directed Education and Training Office to agree with localities to coordinate the increase in student number at schools, where the number of registered students exceeds the registered quota, ensuring that all children in the area are accepted into schools.

Along with Ben Cat Town, Di An City is also a "hot" locality in terms of number of students that increases rapidly each school year. According to Nguyen Van Minh, Deputy Head of the City Education and Training Office, in this new school year the whole city is expected to have an increase of nearly 2,000 students at all levels. To prepare for the new school year, leaders of Di An city and branches conducted surveys of schools in seven wards. The City People's Committee ascertained the actual situation and directed relevant branches and wards to focus on supporting schools to overcome and deal with difficulties. In particular, the localities need to prioritize budget funds and socializing for repairing school facilities, purchasing equipment for teaching and learning to serve the requirements of education development in the new school year 2023-2024.

Increase investment

In academic year 2023-2024, the whole education and training branch of Binh Duong has 732 schools and continuing education centers. The total number of students at all levels from preschool to high school and continuing education is expected to be more than 548,000, an increase of more than 37,000 students compared to the previous school year. The investment priority list in localities will give priority to the construction of schools in the period of 2021-2025 according to Official Letter No. 5449/UBND-KT of the Provincial People's Committee. Currently, the whole province has 98/175 educational construction projects with policy approval decisions, 92/175 projects have investment approval decisions, 24 projects are under construction and 5 completed projects, including 3 junior high schools and 2 primary schools.

It is expected that by the end of 2023, the province will have 19 more public school projects completed (new construction, upgrading and renovation) with a total investment of more than VND2,101 billion. The number of additional classrooms in the 2023-2024 school year is 337. To ensure the teaching and learning requirements according to the General Education Program 2018, provincial education and training branch is currently collaborating with units and schools to purchase teaching equipment for all grades according to the implementation schedule of new programs and textbooks.

Nguyen Loc Ha, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee, said that Binh Duong always pays special attention to education, because this is an important basis contributing to the supply of high-quality human resource to build and develop the province in the future. Localities need to continue to review and closely grasp the number of children in their area to encourage them go to school. In the immediate future, Department of Education & Training needs to immediately implement a supporting program to create joy and motivation for students before the new school year, definitely not to let any disadvantaged children not go to school. Regarding some issues such as lack of teachers, new teaching aids, tables and chairs..., departments, branches and localities continue to coordinate to actively solve in the coming time.

From the attention and direction of local government, in the new school year 2023-2024, education training branch and schools will overcome difficulties. The effective use and integration of capital sources, balancing and allocating local budgets and maximizing socialization resources for investment in school facilities will meet the requirements of innovation, improvement of education training quality in the coming period.
