In the first quarter of 2025, under the strong leadership and guidance of the Provincial People's Committee and Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, along with the proactive efforts of Thu Dau Mot City People's Committee, the city made significant progress in addressing development challenges. As a result, the economic situation continued to improve. Additionally, the city is committed to building a "Green and Friendly City," which has yielded practical results.

Economic growth over 28%
According to the People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot City, in the first quarter of 2025, the city's economy achieved a growth rate of 28.14% over the same period in 2024, of which the total retail sales of goods were estimated at VND 10,787.33 billion, an increase of 29.53%; industrial production value increased by 27.28% over the same period in 2024; total state budget revenue in the area reached 50% compared to the estimated target assigned by the province and reached 46% of the Resolution assigned by the City People's Council in 2025.
In the first quarter, the city's leaders focused on directing the acceleration of compensation and site clearance for key projects and works, completing the handover of sites for some key projects according to the set plan; all levels, sectors and localities strengthened the mobilization and persuasion of households to comply with receiving compensation and handing over sites; and organized the implementation of forced land recovery according to the approved plan. Currently, the city is carrying out compensation and site clearance for 14 public investment projects, with 75.07 hectares of land, with 2,196 cases subject to land recovery. As of March 10, 2025, 1,754 cases had been settled involving 53.6 hectares of land. Compensation for the land was paid, totaling 2,894.5 billion VND.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Cuc, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, Chairman of People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot City, said that the city continues to focus on and resolutely complete the restructuring of the apparatus according to Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW dated October 25, 2017 of the 12th Party Central Committee on some issues to continue innovating and restructuring the apparatus of the political system to be streamlined, operate effectively and efficiently, and ensure the set progress. The city develops and implements a flexible growth plan for each month and each quarter with tasks and feasible solutions to ensure double-digit growth and a plan to implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation in the city; effectively implements the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for subjects and cases of people with revolutionary contributions, policy families, and households living in difficult circumstances in the city, ensuring the completion of the set targets.
To maintain high and stable economic growth, the city has made great efforts to achieve and exceed the set budget revenue and expenditure, ensuring expenditures are thrifty and anti-wasteful. The city's specialized agencies improve the quality of consultation, promptly propose solutions and plans for budget revenue and expenditure management; effectively implement solutions to increase state budget revenue, especially the amounts that localities benefit from.
For a green city
Currently, all levels and sectors are actively implementing the plan set forth by Thu Dau Mot City Party Committee to carry out an urban greening campaign, with the goal of building a "Green - Friendly City" during the period from 2024 to 2030 and beyond. A key focus for 2025 will be to promote and encourage community participation in the initiative "Each person plants at least one tree." The aim is to plant an additional 500,000 trees of various kinds, as well as 383,000 seedlings, to meet the required number of trees to be planted by 2026.

According to Mr. Vo Chi Thanh, Vice Chairman of Thu Dau Mot City People's Committee, the city is committed to maintaining and promoting its outstanding achievements in greening. Efforts include the care and preservation of plants in designated tree conservation areas, specialized tree gardens, schools, canals, ditches, and dykes along the Saigon River. Additionally, the city is focused on planting more trees in median strips and along the sidewalks of city roads, while also increasing the variety and coverage of trees in existing parks and flower gardens.
In 2024, the city will review and replant trees on public lands that have already been established and will continue to plant trees on new public lands in 2025. Agencies, units, and organizations at every level—from city to ward, as well as religious organizations, businesses, and educational institutions, from universities to kindergartens—are encouraged to participate in tree planting and care activities that are suitable for their specific circumstances.
The city has mobilized the involvement of central and provincial agencies, units, and organizations operating in the area, such as Division 7, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Police, the Provincial Industrial Parks’ Management Board, and Ngo Quyen University, to support local greening efforts. The plan for the launching ceremony of the "Tet Tree Planting to Forever Remember Uncle Ho" event, along with additional tree planting activities, is scheduled to take place from May 13 to 16, 2025.
Thu Dau Mot City is enhancing its outreach efforts to educate departments, branches, organizations, armed forces, students, and the community about the importance of planting and caring for trees. In addition, the city is continuing to effectively implement its plan to become a "Zero Garbage City" by focusing on the classification of domestic solid waste at the source from 2023 to 2025.
Thu Dau Mot city is also advancing its initiatives to establish a comprehensive master plan that will guide development until 2045. This includes reviewing detailed planning, consulting on adjustments to the urban master plan, and modifying the zoning plans for 12 out of 14 wards. Furthermore, in 2025, the city will take proactive steps to implement the Peak Plan aimed at restoring urban order, construction standards, and traffic safety within the area. |
