While realizing the economic development goal, TDM City is relocating graveyards on public lands, creating a clean land fund, forming parks in areas to improve the quality of people' lives.
To plan for green parks
The park on Nguyen Van Long Street in Chanh My ward (TDM City) used to be a graveyard two years ago. This area was quite large, had many graves existing for decades. Gradually weeds overgrew on roads, not to mention domestic waste of local people were also thrown around this area, causing a blot on the landscape and environmental pollution. Yet its appearance has changed. Nguyen Thi Thy, a resident here, said that local residents advocated clearing graves. “Not long after that, this place became a spacious park with exercise machines, and is a place for community activities. People often come here to exercise, talk with each other, so people are very happy”, said Thy.

Also in Quarter 4, Hiep An Ward, graves near residential areas were moved. Nguyen Pham Minh Thai, Vice Chairman of Hiep An Ward People's Committee, said: “Several decades ago, the area of Quarter 4, which had an area of over 7,500m2, is public land, had many spontaneous graves. According to Mr. Nguyen, because the graves were arranges without planning, they polluted the environment and water source for a long time. Therefore, since the policy of relocating cemeteries, people have been very excited. What people are most happy with is the changing living space, which is very airy and fresh.
Green, clean, beautiful city
One of the development orientations set forth by TDM City's government is to become a city with a good living environment with characteristic advantages and values of culture, history, landscape and environment. Therefore, in addition to modern urban construction planning, green areas, open spaces in tourist areas, residential areas, and inner city areas are also prioritized for development. Therefore, TDM City now has complete and synchronous traffic infrastructure, commercial housing, industrial or residential areas, many modern markets. The most obvious difference that everyone can notice easily is that many beautiful parks and gardens were formed. Going along main streets or small roads in wards, there are several parks or gardens that were formed or are completing its construction. Although these parks are not large, they create highlights, provides a fresh urban space in a very bustling city. Therefore, the development of parks and flower gardens is the factor that creates space, beautiful landscape and community living space for the city.
According to a representative of Thu Dau Mot City People's Committee, in order to implement green targets for the new city, the city's government issued Document No. 303/UBND-KT dated 2 Mar 2018 on the list of parks and flower gardens in 2018 on 35 land plots in the area. In which, there are 16 public land plots for construction of parks and parks; 2 public land plots are calling for socialization... Urban Management Office, the City Project Management Board, and People's Committees of wards are assigned to be investors to build parks and parks according to the proposed plan.
Every year, the city launches a tree planting movement among the people. Up to now, the city has completed the construction of 83 parks and flower gardens on public lands, and continue to build other parks in 2020. In addition, the City People's Committee proposed Provincial People's Committee to hand over 4 land areas managed by the State to the City People's Committee for the construction of parks and public welfare works in the coming time, including land plots of former Provincial Land Fund Development Center (Phu Cuong ward); Quarter 5, Chanh Nghia ward (near former Thuy Loi resettlement area); acquired land of Phu Cuong Trade and Investment Construction Joint Stock Company; the area in front of Provincial Political School. Thereby increasing the total urban green area to 406.5ha; The rate of urban greenery land will increase from 8.02m2 / person (in 2016) to 13.6m2 / person (standard for class-1urban area is from 10-15m2 / person).
According to leaders of Thu Dau Mot city, the implementation of urban greenery targets has gained good results, which is the effort of the entire political system. Although there are still many difficulties in the implementation process, this is an important task. In addition to encourage the people to change their customs and raise awareness of the burial, the renovation of cemeteries both save land and create beautiful landscape. The implementation of a new, green and clean urban area has been agreed and supported by the people to build thriving beautiful, civilized and modern Thu Dau Mot City.
