Thu Dau Mot (TDM) City is one of localities where the number of students outside the province increased every year, causing difficulties for local authorities in the beginning of new school year. However, due to attention of the city Party Committee, People's Committee and efforts of provincial Department of Education - Training (DOET), educational and training sector has made great progress, contributing to improving people's knowledge, training of human resources, serving the cause of industrialization and modernization of the province.
Facilities expanded continuously
To have good educational quality, the first important factor is facilities. TP.TDM is one locality having a rapid development speed of educational facilities. Since 2011, TP.TDM has built 25 new schools worth VND30-55bln each. TP.TDM Education – Training Bureau’s Head Nguyen Huu Phuoc, a school system meeting national standards has been expanded broadly across 14 wards, communes to meet the learning needs of all children. Currently, 100% of schools are solidly built including over 78% schools having more than 2 floors.

In addition, the sector supplied sufficient teaching equipment to all schools, 100% learning chairs and tables in accordance with specifications. Up to now, 38/60 municipal schools meeting national standards (achieving 63.3%). Up to June 2015, there will have been 6 more schools standardized schools, increasing by 80%.
The number of pupils increases every year, but TP.TDM is able to assure sufficient school places for children, because the city has done well educational socialization. At preschool level, the network of non-state schools has grown rapidly, facilitating learning of workers’ children, reducing the pressure for public schools. In the past 5 years, many individuals and organizations have invested over VND121bln in building non-public schools.
Dedicated staff
TP.TDM education and training sector has trained their staff to meet and exceed standards. 100% of management staff and teachers meet qualification standards. In addition, every year, the sector associates with HCMC University of Pedagogy and Thu Dau Mot University in teachers training, teaching methods reforming with annual total expense of nearly VND1.2bln.
Phu My junior high school’ principal Diep Thi Ngoc Dung said, teachers keep self-learning, self-training to enhance their professional competences, innovating teaching methods; utilize effectively teaching aids, especially information technology, in order to stimulate creativity and generate excitement at pupils.
Improved quality
In recent years, TP.TDM is leading the movement of excellent pupils. The city has had more pupils obtaining prices than any other localities in excellent pupils contests held by DOET. To achieved these results, municipal educational sector has paid attention to the “Good teaching, good learning” movement, performed well competitions of good teachers, good pupils, and other contests.
Majority teachers have responded the movement of writing and applying innovative experiences actively. Teachers at the schools have carried out seriously teaching works, class observation, teaching methods innovation, professional skills improving; the movement of using self-made teaching aids, applying information technology in teaching. Thanks to dedicated, wholehearted teachers, output quality has been the pride of TP.TDM educational sector. In the last 3 years, the city has taken the lead on enrollment in 10th grade compared with other localities.
One highlight of the municipal sector is the first school generating resource for the province – Chu Van An junior high school. This has been proved through output quality. In the 2013-2014 school year, the school had 97.6% pupils achieving excellent results, 70/84 pupils admitted to 10th grade classes of Hung Vuong gifted high school, including 20 pupils did not have to take the entrance exam.
