The Ministry of Construction held a conference to appraise the proposal for recognizing Thu Dau Mot City as a class-1 urban area under Binh Duong province. Attending the meeting were Tran Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman of Binh Duong People's Committee; Nguyen Loc Ha, Chairman of Thu Dau Mot City People's Committee; and members of the appraisal committee.
Thu Dau Mot City is the central city of Binh Duong province. After five years of performing general objectives in the urban development program 2011-2015, the city has basically completed these objectives. The speed of socio-economic development and urban development of Thu Dau Mot City is very fast. By mid-2014, Thu Dau Mot City was recognized as a class-2 urban area. Then the city continued to gather its resources for construction and improvement of urban quality in order to reach class-1 urban standards.
According to the appraisal committee, Thu Dau Mot City has 37 criteria that have reached and exceeded the prescribed maximum standard. This is what other cities are difficult to achieve. Thu Dau Mot also has 19 criteria that are above the minimum but not the maximum. Only 3 criteria have not reached the minimum, such as population density, lightened lanes and funeral houses.
At the conference, Deputy Minister of Construction Phan Thi My Linh appreciated the role and position of Thu Dau Mot City in socio-economic development of Binh Duong province and the South East region. Thu Dau Mot is a driving force for development in north Ho Chi Minh City. It is one of the key in the growth triangle of Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Vung Tau City; a typical urban development model of the country according to modern and civilized criteria.
At the conference, the appraisal committee of Ministry of Construction voted unanimously to recognize Thu Dau Mot City meeting class-1 urban standards, directly under Binh Duong.
