National University of Hanoi and the network of Southeast Asian Universities (ASEAN University Network-AUN) co-hosted an international seminar "Quality of Education for universities" and introduced the match rating system developed by Vietnam named "University Performance Metrics" (UPM). The seminar announced results of the match and star rating for 30 educational institutions in Vietnam and ASEAN. Accordingly, Binh Duong has Thu Dau Mot University reaching four-star standards. This is also the highest standard of application-oriented universities' group.
On Dec 2019, Thu Dau Mot University do an assessment according to standards of South East Asia region's top universities.
In particular, in the application-oriented universities' group, Thu Dau Mot University reached the highest level (4 stars), including: Thu Dau Mot University, Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, Foreign Trade University, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Quy Nhon University, West Visayas University (Philippines). In research-oriented universities' group, universities reached the highest level of 5 stars.
UPM is a product of Hanoi National University's experts under the funding of National Education Science Program, which is managed by Ministry of Education and Training. The UPM star rating chart is based on 8 field groups and 54 criteria. Each criterion has its own benchmark and weight with a total score of 1000 points. Each criterion of each field is matched against the benchmark and star marker. Therefore, UPM helps to identify the overall characteristic, and is able to analyze the strengths, weaknesses of each operation, each sector of educational institutions. From there, the system can provide universities with a basic set of indicators as a strategic management tool and to support quality auditing.
In recent years, Thu Dau Mot University has enhanced quality verification activities to continuously improve educational quality, and strive for region and international prestigious education standards. In 2017, the university attained the National University Education Verification Standards. In 2019, the university had 4 training programs that met the quality testing standards of Ministry of Education-Training, 4 programs meeting AUN-QA quality inspection standards. Thu Dau Mot University is currently a member of CDIO World Organization and an affiliated member of AUN network.
