Modern visual medias have overwhelmed books; and the social people have fewer time to enjoy reading. So as to make reading a good friend and to improve reading habit, Binh Duong Province has organized various activities to draw people to reading.The love for booksPresident Ho Chi Minh used to say “The more books you read the more mileage you travel”. We can put it that books connect human knowledge. Depending on reading needs, we have different kinds of books from entertainment to learning and researches.

And, when the years flew by, those who have been distracted from busy life should seek for the friend of knowledge – the books.Mr. Nguyen Van Long, 67, residing at Phu Cuong Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, is book enthusiast who could spend hours reading. Long said: “As for me, a book is a storage of knowledge in an immense knowledge world. I could not remember how many books that I have read but I could remember my time collecting books. Now, at my retirement, I have generous time to read and read.”Of the book enthusiasts, many have been distracted by modern media and technology to forget about the book roles.Mr. Huynh Ngoc, 50, residing at Chanh Nghia Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, said: “Nowadays, there are bundles of reasons for people to stay distracted from reading books. The medias including TVs, computers, and smart devices in the outburst of internet development should easily drive people away from the reading habit. Now, by only one touch, they could open a whole world. The outcome is very challenging to libraries nation wide.”For younger generation, reading books is more and more of less interest than social networks and comics. Ho Thi Be Diem, a student to Thu Dau Mot University, said: “Sometimes, I really want to read literature master pieces or popular science but I am discouraged by hundreds of pages let alone time consuming.”Books for allIn the face of book quantity decline in libraries, many library organizers have invested to more books and better reading rooms. As for provincial library, its inferior libraries have been directed to offer books to every one.Mr. Nguyen Van Hue, Director of Provincial Library, said: “In urban areas, people are distracted to visual medias not books. For remote areas, books are precious. Thus, we have coordinated various drives to take books to those areas.”In the first quarter of 2014, the public library of the province has serviced 35,600 turns of readers and rotated 220,438 titles of books, journals and magazines. Through out the library system, 1,750 copies of books have been in service for students.Besides, Binh Duong Provincial Library has handed 2,458 copies of books and 1,067 titles of books of national pivotal program to cultural post offices of Phu Giao, Dau Tieng, and Tan UyenThe provincial library also coonected to schools to offer free membership to students as a part of efforts to bring books to everyone.To promote reading habitPrime Minister of Vietnam has decided that April 21 should be Vietnamese Book Day to breathe new life to reading habit. To attract more readers to libraries, the public library system has organized various contests and information propaganda to introduce and transfer books amongst schools and centers to facilitate reading.It was projected that in 2014, the system should grant 5,485 new reader cards to service over 610,000 turns of readers with rotation of about 2.7 million copies of books.Implementing direction of Library Department, local library has categorized documents and books to start up library system amongst major schools with IT application.Mr. Nguyen Van Hue added that book collection should be improved in terms of quantity and quality before implementing good access.Besides, public libraries are required to reorganize with new books and activities for local people to join in.
