The joy to be put aside
Vietnamese Physician's Day 27 Feb is an occasion for the society to express gratitude and honor physicians silently doing their job to care for people's health. Annually, on this day, medical units organize celebrations, meetings with the participation of generations of medical officials.
Dr. Huynh Thanh Ha, Deputy Director of Provincial Health Department, said that this year was different. Vietnamese Physicians' Day this year took place, while the country is focusing on the prevention and combat of Covid-19, thus the Health Department and medical units in the province implemented the direction of the Government and Ministry of Health. Accordingly, medical units only held internal talks, workshops, limit large celebrations and events at this moment.
The working atmosphere at medical units these days is intensive and hurried. After Lunar New Year 2020 holidays, medical staff have to perform professional tasks at their unit, at the same time, cope with the happening of Covid-19, thus their work intensity increases greatly. Dr. Nguyen Van Duc, Director of Thu Dau Mot City Medical Center, said that the guidance was carried out from the Central, province and city-level from after Lunar New Year holiday, the Department put all efforts into the prevention and combat of Covid-19 in the area. “All wards and units, especially in Disease Control Ward, the working intensity increased by more than 100%. In addition to performing daily professional tasks, to be ready for all situation, we must work overtime, including on our days-off. Members of quick response teams must be on duty 24/7, regardless of early morning or late night, they have to be available on the phone to timely receive information and be ready to respond to all situation", said Dr. Duc.
The number of patients to Provincial General Hospital is always very high. Every day, medical staff here have to work very hard to solve all the work. Since after the Lunar New Year holiday, Provincial General Hospital has had an extremely important task that is to prepare all aspects, like material facilities, personnel, vehicles, equipment, medical supplies, medicines... for the prevention and combat of Covid-19 in the province.
Dr. Van Quang Tan, Director of the Provincial General Hospital, said that the annual Vietnamese Physician Day is the most meaningful day of health officials. Following the direction of Central Government and Department of Health, the organization of this year anniversary was narrowed and happened within each unit. According to Dr. Tan, previous years’ celebrations often invited retired officials. However, this year, in order to well carry out the prevention and combat of Covid-19, avoid crowded gatherings, Provincial General Hospital assigned wards and units to organize themselves. Although it was internal organization at wards, it ensures the full meaning of this day, reviewed the tradition, reminded about code of conduct of health officials.
To put all efforts into disease prevention
In the recent visit to provincial hospitals on occasion of Vietnam Physician's Day, besides acknowledging the contributions of provincial physicians to people's health care, Dang Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee, also informed more about the current situation of Covid-19 in the world and in the country. The Covid-19 still happening very complicatedly, the world and regions are striving to perform well the protection of people lives and public health. Up to now, Vietnam has well controlled the Covid-19. 16/16 positive cases of Covid-19 in Vietnam were cured. According to Mr. Hung, it was the result of the Government's drastic direction with the spirit of "Combating epidemic like fighting against the enemy" and efforts of the whole community. “So far, Binh Duong has been basically safe. However, the epidemic situation in the world is still complicated. Thus the prevention and fighting against Covid-19 in the coming time in the province continue to require all efforts, in which the responsibility of physicians - not only in public but also non-public health systems - all must work together to perform this work", said Mr. Hung.
Following the general guidance on the prevention and combat of Covid-19, Dr. Van Quang Tan added, Provincial General Hospital prepared all aspects to serve if the disease occurs. Especially, health officials have to ensure good implementation of the principles to prevent spreading in the community as well as perform tasks at the hospital. Dr. Tan said: “White-coat physicians do not forget their duties. We are stable and follow the guidance of Ministry of Health; provincial leaders and health sector are unanimous in fulfilling the assigned tasks".
Mr. Hung expressed gratitude to provincial health officials, and said that medical staff were dedicated, responsible for their work, took good care of people's health. After the inspection of hospitals, it can be affirmed that medical units from grassroots to district and province-level implemented measures to prevent and combat Covid-19. With a high sense of responsibility, hospitals in the province have done a good job of communication and raised people's awareness of prevention and combat of this disease; ensure medical supplies for checking and quarantine. In the coming time, Mr. Hung asked medical units to continue enhancing communication to raise people awareness of following recommendations of Ministry of Health.
