Various measures implemented to ensure traffic safety during Tet

To ensure traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year of the Snake, various measures have been implemented in provinces and cities across the country to create favourable conditions for people travel safely.  As a general rule, every holiday and Lunar New Year festival, people's travel demand rises sharply, especially in the days before and after Tet. On these occasions, businesses and owners of transports usually compete for passengers, many speed or drive recklessly, leading to traffic disorder and accidents. In addition, during the holidays and Lunar New Year festivals, people often have a habit of drinking alcohol, going by motorbike without helmet, or carrying too many passengers, raising the risk of traffic accidents.Recently, the Prime Minister has just sent a message requiring related ministries, sectors and localities to strictly and constantly carry out measures to ensure traffic order and safety during the peak time from December 20, 2012 to March 15, 2013.Lieutenant Colonel Tran Son from the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department said the department and local police departments have recently deployed measures to ensure traffic order and safety during the peak time.To perform the plan effectively over the peak time, the traffic police will mobilize all forces and technical means as well as deploy measures synchronously and drastically to help curb traffic accidents.Besides, the traffic police forces will conduct timely patrols, firmly handle illegal motorcycle racing and acting against people on public mission, effectively fighting crime and unlawful behaviour on the road to ensure people can travel freely and safely during the Lunar New Year of the Snake and spring festivals 2013.Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City also focus on dealing with behaviours causing urban traffic disorder and traffic jams such as going through red lights, illegal parking or stopping. For the railways, the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department will deploy forces to strengthen inspection, handle administrative violations of railway traffic safety and ensure safety in station areas as well as in passenger trains./.CPV
