Vietnam attends fourth Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi

The fourth Raisina Dialogue, which kicked off in New Delhi capital city of India on January 8, is dealing with important issues facing the international community at present.

Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg delivers the opening speech of the fourth Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi on January 8

The event, held by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, saw the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Norwegian PM Erna Solberg, along with officials, scholars and businesspersons from 92 countries around the world.

A Vietnamese delegation led by Lt. Gen. Tran Viet Khoa, member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Director of the National Defence Academy attended the dialogue.

Tens of panel discussions focusing on a new world order will take place during the three-day dialogue.

In her opening speech, Norwegian PM Solberg emphasised a rules-based world order and the necessity of global cooperation in solving international issues.

“We cannot afford to let protectionism, discrimination and economic rivalry define our future,” she said, urging all countries to make efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Solberg also affirmed: “The principle ‘might is right’ cannot be used as a basis for governing our oceans, or anything else, for that matter.”

She also called for global cooperation to better manage oceans.

ORF President Samir Saran said over the three days, there will be over 85 sets of interactions, discussions, key notes and conversations with the participation of global leaders and experts in an attempt to paint a picture of a new world order that is rapidly emerging.

A prominent feature of this year’s conversation at Raisina is Europe or more broadly, Eurasia, he said, adding that this supercontinent is without doubt the most dynamic and unpredictable region in the world.
