Vietnam Journalists’ Association asked to make most of digital transformation

An open information society, based on the development of science and technology, especially information technology, poses challenges, but also creates a lot of opportunities for the press, requiring it to seize opportunities to create a breakthrough and comprehensive development of journalism in terms of quantity, quality, type, content and form, a senior Party official has said.

While speaking at the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA) in Hanoi on December 31, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Vo Van Thuong said the press must continue to renew itself to truly become an accurate, timely, powerful, influential and responsible channel of information in society.

He proposed the association actively adopt action programmes and specific and substantive activities to continue increasing the position, role, quality and operation efficiency of the VJA and its chapters.

The 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA) elected a 52-strong Executive Committee and an Inspection Committee with 15 members for the 2020-2025 tenure.

Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan dan (People) Newspaper and Vice Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, was elected President of the VJA.

In this tenure, the VJA will continue reforming and increasing its role and prestige in journalism activities and the social life, thus contributing to building a humane, professional and modern Vietnamese revolutionary press for the benefits of the country and the people.

It will focus on disseminating the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; training journalists who have a firm political mettle, meet professional qualifications, uphold professional ethics, and well perform social responsibilities and civic obligations; and promoting external activities so as to raise the VJA’s prestige in the international arena, especially in the ASEAN Community./.
