Vietnam sends more rescue workers to Turkey

The Ministry of National Defence has decided to send 80 Vietnamese soldiers to Turkey to help the Middle Eastern country with ongoing search and rescue efforts following the recent earthquake which has so far killed 21,000.

Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong meets Vietnamese soldiers who will arrive in Turkey to help quake victims

The team is comprised of rescue forces, engineers, sniffer dogs, and military medical staff.

Many advanced equipment will also be brought to the area hit by the deadly quake, including victim detectors, concrete cutters, emergency resuscitation equipment, medicines, field tents, and army cold weather clothing.

The ministry hopes the aid will help those impacted by the disaster to cope with tough weather dipping down to minus five to minus 10 degrees Celsius in the region.

In addition, the Ministry of National Defense has also decided to support the Turkish people with the shipment 10 tonnes of food.

Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong said on February 10 that the emergency aid is very necessary, adding the dispatched rescuers have plenty of experience in relief and rescue in the international environment.

On February 9, 24 policemen of the Ho Chi Minh Police Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue (PC07) and officers of the Ministry of Public Security were also sent to Turkey to help locate and rescue survivors of the recent deadly earthquake.

So far, more than 21,000 deaths have been confirmed following the powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake which rocked both Turkey and Syria on February 6.
