After a recent meeting with ILO Director General Juan Somavia on the sidelines of the ongoing 15th Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting of the ILO in Kyoto, Japan, Ms Chuyen asked the organization to work out specific employment programmes for young people to utilize their good health, intelligence and creativity. The ILO has created a wealth of opportunities for Vietnam to be involved in its activities, from policy making to implementing policies related to social welfare, including employment and poverty reduction, she said.
On the occasion, Ms. Chuyen also held separate meetings with her counterparts from Japan and Thailand.
At the meeting with the Japanese Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, Yoko Komiyama, the two sides agreed to make preparations for the early signing of the agreement to send Vietnamese medical workers to Japan that was devised by their two Prime Ministers.
Vietnam pledges to prepare qualified medical workers and train them in the Japanese language to facilitate their work in Japan, Ms Chuyen said.
Approximately 18,000 Vietnamese on-the-job trainees are working in Japan in the electronics, mechanical engineering, agriculture and seafood processing industries.
