Vietnam’s administrative reform praised

A Vietnamese delegation led by Nguyen Van Lam, Deputy Head of Administrative Procedure Control Agency under the Government Office, attended the meeting as an observer.

Since Vietnam implemented the second phase of project 30 on administrative reform, OECD has given numerous recommendations on the process for Vietnam. The country is one of the three South East Asian nations, along with Malaysia and Indonesia, which were invited to the event by OECD as observers.

Mr Lam said at the meeting titled “Better policies for better lives” Vietnam was very interested in learning from other nations’ experiences in administrative reform to improve this process.

After more than one year of implementing the Government’s 25 resolutions on administrative reform, Vietnam has simplified more than 3,000 formalities, 68 percent out of the total 4,800.

At the event, the Vietnamese delegation held a working session with OECD’s Regulatory Reform Committee to make a presentation and discuss issues on institutional and administrative reform.  OECD’s Regulatory Reform Committee pledged to support Vietnam in training human resources and providing technical assistance, as well as sharing experiences in this field.

In addition, the Vietnamese delegation also met with delegates from Australia, the Netherlands, France, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Egypt who showed their willingness to help Vietnam in the administrative reform process.

Vietnam will continue to define administrative reform as one of the three strategic breakthroughs to push up national development.

The Prime Minister issued a decision on March 5, 2012 on controlling administrative formalities in 2012, with the aim of improving the business environment and the national economy’s competitive capacity.
