Visually impaired people improve their living standard thanks to loans

Huynh Thi Khuyen, vice chairwoman of the provincial society for visually impaired people shared that owing to disability, most of the visually impaired people have faced difficulties in living. However, they have always desired to have a stable job to improve their living and to integrate into the community. Job placement for the local visually impaired people is always a concern for the society’s leaders. As such, when program of the national fund for job placement has been launched, the society has positively brought joys for the unlucky.

Though loans’ value is not high, they have been considered as a lifebuoy for many local visually impaired people. Notably, Van Quang Phi Hung’s family in Ben Cat district’s Hoa Loi commune has enjoyed a comfortable life, thanks to the program’s loans. Now, Hung’s family has possessed a rubber plantation and a new house. Meanwhile, Chau Van Hung in An Thanh ward of Thuan An town and Le Van An in Phu My ward of Thu Dau Mot city have enjoyed a stable living thanks to the program.

According to Khuyen, criterion of enjoying loans from the national fund is that the local visually impaired people and their relatives must directly use loans for homebased economic development. Especially, 100% of households enjoying loans have accumulated property. The program has placed jobs for not only the local visually impaired people but other laborers, contributing to place jobs for rural laborers.

In addition, the society has paid attention to job placement and poverty elimination. One of the program’s successes is vocational training and job placement for the local visually impaired people. Presently, the society has had 5 massage workshops, 1 toothpick workshop and many broom production ones, bringing an average income of about VND2mil per capita per month.

Thanks to vocational training, Nguyen Thi Thu Hong and her husband Nguyen Van Hai have enjoyed a new house and lodging rooms, bringing an income of VND1mil per month. At present, they have earned a stable income from toothpick and broom production.

Additionally, the society has paid attention to accommodation for the local visually impaired people. In 2012 alone, the society mobilized to grant 3 hi-unity houses worth nearly VND80mil. From 1993 to June 2013, the society built 170 projects, placing jobs 1,896 members. Notably, 100% of borrowers have refunded loans to the State in time.
