Talking about Vo Ho My Phuc (in photo), a Grade 12 student, teachers of Hung Vuong Specialized High School are so proud for her various awards. In this school year alone, she has won first award of provincial excellent student contest of biology, promotional prize of national excellent student contest, and third prize of technology and science for senior high students in 2015-2016.
On our first contact with her, we can see her strong characteristics. For her, once the targets are set, she would pursue to the end. With passion for biology and researches, she has challenged herself in the provincial contest of science and technology in 2015-2016. Her chosen topic was ‘the effect of diet on color development of betta splendens’. To successfully implement the research, she has started upon being approved with the research proposal in Grade 11.
First of all, Phuc is knowledgeable of betta splendens – the kind of ornament fish in her research, as she has a brother of ornament fish passion. She talked about her research with keen consideration. She acknowledged the fact that ornament fish trade has been strongly developed to satisfy the needs of ornament fish rearing for recreational purposes and the high market values. However, the improvement or research for improvement of ornament fish breeds for exportation has been a matter of limitation. Betta splendens, which local people call ‘xiem’ or ‘lia thia’ or ‘phuon’ fish, is such a case. In her research, she concluded that food adjustment can help to gain the intended color of the fish during the rearing process.
The success of her research is the foundation for her pursue of scientific researches. For the third prize of national technology and science contest, she has been qualified for direct university enrollment. However, she keeps on learning for the upcoming national high school graduation contest. She chooses biology faculty of University of Natural Sciences to satisfy her passion of learning and researching. Talking to us, she affirmed her determination to excel in English to earn oversea scholarship or a pedagogic course to be able to return as a teacher of Hung Vuong Specialized High School delivering the learning passion to the next generation.
