Voluntary blood donation exceeds year’s target

In 2009, nearly 7,000 units of blood were donated voluntarily, reaching nearly 106% compared to the proposed target. The figure made members of the steering board of voluntary blood donation campaign satisfy because it showed local people’s attention to the campaign.

Assessing the voluntary blood donation campaign, Mrs. Luu Thi Nguyet Suong, vice head of the provincial Red Cross Society, said the campaign reached encouraging results in the past year. Aside from exceeding the proposed targets, the rate of blood donors surged sharply. The result was thanks to wide promulgations, raising local people’s awareness on voluntary blood donation. Beside key donors such as members of mass bodies, youths, unionists, soldiers, workers across enterprises and members of religious bodies also accounted for the majority.

Up to now, the entire province has 106 voluntary blood donation teams with the participation of 3,404 members, 106 reserve blood donation teams of 1,039 members and 178 promulgation teams of 1,693 attendees. Three registration locations for voluntary blood donation are often maintained at the provincial Red Cross Society, General Hospital and Youth Union.

Tran Tan Phong, secretary of Tuong Binh Hiep commune youth union donated his blood for 28 times said ‘I join in the campaign with a simple target of saving people. I therefore mobilize my relatives and friends to engage in the campaign. The communal blood bank subsociety is in good operation’.

Meanwhile Nguyen Van Boi in Phu My ward feels happy when more and more poor patients overcome dangerous cases after receiving donated blood. He boasted that he mobilizes his colleagues to join in the campaign.

The entire province honored 49 collectives and 298 individuals for their contributions to the campaign. In 2010, the steering board targets to reach 6,840 units of blood, up 380 units from last year. To reach this target, the steering board will continue boosting propagations and paying more attention to blood donors.
