To absorb numerous participants
From after the 2020 Lunar New Year, due to the influence of Covid-19, VBD reception in Thu Dau Mot City was also temporarily stopped. But, after the epidemic was under good control, VBD activities have been promoted by Red Cross Societies.
Many session of VBD held recently in Thu Dau Mot City attracted the participation of all people's classes. The initial target was 350 bloodunits, but the recent blood donation held last weekend in the city received 388 blood units. Many people said, due to the affect of epidemic, thus when they received a notice of an upcoming blood donation, they instantly signed up. To these people, the blood donation to save people has become a regular activity.
Nguyen Tran Nhat Tan, who lives in quarter 6, Binh Hiep Ward, said that he had done VBD 18 times. Every time, he has a very special emotion when thinking that his blood could come in handy and timely help someone in need. He is also a member of the local timely blood donation club. "Not only strong young men but also some elderly with good health are able to donate blood and save people. I am both young and healthy, thus I participate in this activity to contribute to creating healing opportunities, survival chances for sick people who need blood", said Tan.
VBD movement in Thu Dau Mot City has also had the participation of many units and businesses, who created favorable conditions for their officials and employees to come and donate blood. Binh Duong Co. Opmart Supermarket is an example of actively participating in VBD movement. Annually, the supermarket usually supports the city Red Cross in terms of material facilities to organize blood donation activities at the supermarket lobby. In addition, the supermarket's directors board also created favorable for their employees to take part in the VBD. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Deputy Secretary of Binh Duong Co. Opmart Supermarket's Youth Union, said besides employees, the directors board also participated in blood donation. On average, every year, the supermarket holds 2 blood donation sessions at their facility. "This year alone, due to the epidemic, the supermarket has not organized VBD, hence this time, we joined the VBD organized by the City Red Cross. Whenever there is a blood donation, numerous people take part in enthusiastically. My health condition is not so good, but I have already participated in VBD 4 times", Hai said.
A humanitarian act
With the good propaganda of Red Cross Societies, all people's classes in the city have actively engaged in this movement. Not only one time, many participants, after joining, saw the meaning and benefits of blood donation, has voluntarily donated blood several times. Therefore, VBD movement is growing vigorously.
Bui Ngoc Truc, Chairwoman of TDM City Red Cross, said the society always attached great importance to blood donation, not only to save people but also one of their key tasks. From beginning of this year, TDM City Red Cross has built up a program and action plan for VBD work, then went into details for each quarter and month. In the last 2 years, VBD achieved and exceeded targets set by provincial VBD Steering Committee. In particular, in 2019, the city Red Cross collected 2,162/2,150 blood units. From beginning of year 2020, despite of the affect of Covid-19, the city Red Cross has made good progress, collected 1,530/2,250 blood units.
According to Ms. Truc, the attention and direction of TDM City Party and People's Committee, and the responsible spirit of VBD staff contributed to these good results. In addition, the people's consciousness and voluntary spirit of VBD has been heightened, thus the communication and movement is increasingly favorable, the people support and participate in the movement.
In order to perform well VBD work in the coming time, Ms. Truc said the city Red Cross continued to advised and communicated widely about the meaning and benefits of VBD among members and people, especially among students at universities; workers in companies, factories... to mobilize large number of participants for blood donation. Voluntary blood donation to save people not only contributes to Red Cross work, but also is a noble act that needs to be widened so that love, compassion, and beautiful deeds continue to spread in the community.
