All blood donors are heroes. Each person has a different job and age, but they all have the same thought of donating their blood to save others, who need blood transfusions.
At the 31st VBD festival recently organized by Binh Duong Water Supply and Environment Company, Nguyen Tran Thao Trang, working at Di An Water Supply Branch, said this was the third time she participated in VBD. “The act of VBD to help others is very meaningful. I have long known this meaning and also wanted to participate in blood donation to save people. But because of anemia, I was not eligible to donate blood. By 2017, I participated in blood donation for the first time. At that time, my colleague's grandmother needed O blood for treatment, but the hospital lacked blood reserves. She asked me for help, after physical examinations, doctors agreed to let me donate blood. The happy feeling as donating my blood drops to help others was unable to describe. My action was small, but I felt very happy because I did a good job”, Trang said.
All blood donors, who were asked about their motivation to participate in this meaningful activity, said about the same happiness as Trang. From those joys and happiness, many people have continued to participate in blood donation to save people when possible. Up to now, Luu Thanh Nhan in Phu Cuong Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, has also participated in VBD 10 times. He said, after each time of VBD, "I was happy, because this work contributed to saving people lives in need of blood for treatment, especially patients. Every drop of blood gives away - A life stays. If people, who need blood transfusions, have blood in time, they will overcome dangers, not only the patients but also their family will be very happy. Blood is available in our bodies. If it is donated, it will recreate itself, so I go on donating blood when I can. Through this work, I also want to contribute to social work“, Nhan said. He also said that he himself would continue to participate in this meaningful activity. Besides, he will also encourage his family members and colleagues to participate in blood donation to save people.
Spreading the movement
Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, Chairwoman of provincial Red Cross, Deputy Chief of Provincial VBD Steering Committee, said that VBD was an activity with beautiful humanitarian and charitable meanings. Voluntary blood donors are disinterested people, who are willing to give away their precious blood to save lives with no need for thanks from the recipients. VBD campaigns launched by Red Cross at all levels attracted the involvement of many servants, officials, armed forces, workers, students of universities, colleges, high schools, and all people strata. It can be affirmed that in recent years, the VBD movement in the province has been maintained regularly and increasingly developed, spread widely in the community.
For many years, Phu Giao has been evaluated as a locality that achieved and exceeded VBD targets. Ho Thu Thuy, Red Cross Chairwoman of Phu Giao district, said that VBD movement in the district had been launched since 2001. Ms. Thuy said: “It is remarkable that the movement in the area has been gradually socialized, attracting enthusiastic participants. With the enthusiasm of officials and members in propagation and mobilization activities, it has brought about very positive effects, from which the number of participants in the first blood donation, the number of repeat donors in the next year always increased over previous years”. In order to encourage all people to donate blood regularly, every year, the district's VBD Committee honor and commend blood donors. Although "Happiness is giving away", when being honored and rewarded, each individual felt so proud, thereby actively participating in blood donation more times, contributing to ensuring the reserve of blood. Ms. Thuy said that so far the Steering Committee had organized 9 times, commended 1,295 individuals, who have had participated 3 times in VBD.
Besides, families, who had participated in VBD 20 times, 30 times, 40 times, 50 times, were also encouraged and commended. Duong Van Hanh's family in Tan Long commune has participated 50 times in VBD, is an example in Phu Giao district. Mr. Hanh shared: “At first, my father worked for local Red Cross, so he often said about this meaningful action, and encouraged family members to join, so I also went to donate blood. At first, my wife also worried about my blood donation would affect my health. But after a few times, my wife understood that blood donation did not affect health, but could help others, so she also registered to participate. The next was my son. Up to now, I have given blood 25 times, my wife has participated 20 times, and my son 5 times”.
Everyone knows that blood is an invaluable source of life, a very special medicine, and the safest source of blood for patients is the blood from healthy people. In the first quarter of 2019, all Red Cross levels organized 13 sessions of VBD and received 3,721 blood units; then served timely the emergency and treatment work, contributing to saving life of thousands of patients.
