Volunteer student campaign rejuvenates rural areas

Significant deeds of volunteer students help rejuvenate rural roads, contributing to create positive changes for image of rural areas across the province.

Lighting rural roads

Roads in hamlets of Rach Da, Suoi Sau, Ha La, Yen Ngua of Dinh Thanh commune of Dau Tieng district in the past overwhelmed in the dark at night. After the 2014 campaign of volunteer summer, these roads are lightened by electric bulbs. This is result of good deeds implemented by more than 30 volunteer students from Vietnam – Singapore Vocational College. Practicing taught knowledge in reality, the college’s students designed lighting system and installed compact bulbs on electric pillars in front of local residents’ houses.

After more than one month of implementing this work, as many as 200 bulbs were installed on a road with the length of more than 5km.

Nguyen Ha Thanh Nhieu, the fourth-year student of Vietnam-Singapore Vocational College shared “Participating in the campaign, we heard about local people’s complaint of shortage of lighting on roads at night, causing disorder at night. Therefore, we decided to bring lighting for these roads. After installment of compact bulbs on rural roads, local people are very happy. They now can travel at night easily and are not afraid of disorder. We are delighted to contribute our labor for the sake of local people”.

According to Nhieu, this volunteer journey helped students enjoy experiences and apply knowledge into real life. And more importantly, they created good impressions on local residents in rural areas. “This will be a unforgettable memory for me”, Nhieu added.

Getting joy   

Aside from implementing youth work of “Lightening rural roads”, volunteer students of Vietnam-Singapore Vocational College assisted youths and unionists, policemen, soldiers of Dau Tieng district and Dinh Thanh commune to clean roads and asphalt 200 meters of roads in Rach Da hamlet.

Meanwhile, a team of volunteer students of Thu Dau Mot University also asphalted a rural traffic road with the total length of 2km in hamlets of Ben Lieu, Phu Thu, An Thuan, Phu Thuan of Phu An commune in Ben Cat town.

Tran Thi Tuyet Huong, a resident of Phu Thu hamlet said “In the past, these roads were flooded in every rainy season. After getting assistance of volunteer students, this road becomes more cleaner. We are very happy”.

Also in this campaign, volunteer students joined in implementing cultural and sport works by concrete deeds such as making volleyball ground at hamlets of Phu Thu, Ben Lieu and Phu Thuan, creating a healthy playground for local youths. In addition, they participated positively in activities of environmental protection by collecting water hyacinth, dredging canals or paid gift visits to heroic mothers and privileged families, held useful playgrounds for local children, among others.

Concluding this campaign, volunteer students came back classes and brought back joys and significant experiences.

Doan Thi Phuong Uyen, head of volunteer student team of Thu Dau Mot University said “Completing the entrusted tasks, we brought back love of residents. I am very delighted to contribute to build new rural areas and rejuvenate countryside areas”.
