Romance and attraction in Ha Long Bay
Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a popular travel destination, located in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam. The Bay has an area of around 1,553 km2, including 1,960 islets, most of which are limestone. The core of the bay has an area of 334 km2 with a high density of 775 islets. The limestone in this bay has gone through 500 million years of formation in different conditions and environments. The evolution of the karst in this bay has taken 20 million years under the impact of the tropical wet climate. The geo-diversity of the environment in the area has created biodiversity, including a tropical evergreen biosystem, oceanic and sea shore biosystem. Ha Long Bay is home to 14 endemic floral species and 60 endemic faunal species.

In 1994, the core zone of Hạ Long Bay was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site according to criterion vii, and listed for a second time according to criterion viii. Along with Vietnam’s Nha Trang Bay and Lang Co Bay, Ha Long Bay was recognized by the World’s Most Beautiful Bays Club as one of 29 most beautiful bays in the world in 2003. At present, Ha Long Bay is a dynamic developing area, thanks to potentials in tourism, scientific research, aquaculture… In the first 9 months of this year, the bay lured nearly 3 millions of international arrivals, a 25% rise from the same period last year.Vote of patriotism and pride

The poll for the new seven world natural wonders is now in the last stage, with 28 candidates. The winners will be announced on November 11, 2011.Mobilizations for Ha Long Bay vote have been launched nationwide and abroad. From now to Nov. 11, all students nationwide will vote for Ha Long Bay on every Monday and Friday. Earlier, the Ministry of Education and Training sent over 100,000 leaflets to universities, colleges and vocational training schools to urge votes for the bay.
The ministry has mapped out plans to launch Ha Long Bay vote campaign across provinces and cities of Can Tho, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Thua Thien-Hue, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong, Ha Noi and some universities, colleges and high schools nationwide.

According to the provincial department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, as many as 2,000 leaflets urged to vote for Ha Long Bay have been sent to local schools, universities and colleges. In addition, the department has steered branches to mobilize public employees and laborers to vote for Ha Long Bay whilst local tourism areas, hotels and travel companies have promulgated for the poll.
The provincial department of Information and Communication has steered local media agencies to propagate the poll. After over 2 months of promulgation, hundreds of local people voted for Ha Long bay by various modes.
In early Sept. 2011, the local Youth Union opened a campaign on the website tinhdoanbinhduong.vn to promulgate for the poll.
