VOV – 66 years of development

Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) has always fulfilled its task assigned by the Party, State, and Government, said VOV General Director Nguyen Dang Tien.

Mr. Tien affirmed this at the celebration of VOV’s 66th anniversary, which was held on September 6 at the National Radio Broadcasting Centre in Hanoi, with the attendance of State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.

VOV is the country’s only communication channel that has developed in all forms of media including radio, television and print and online newspapers, creating a collective strength and reflecting domestic and international political, cultural, and social situation.

With hundreds of broadcasting hours every day and a network covering 99.5 percent of the population, VOV has successfully shaped public opinion, created a social consensus, and promoted the image of a creative and active Vietnam to the world, he said.

Regarding technology, General Director Tien said VOV is always trying to improve the quality of its broadcasts and widen its coverage, especially to remote and border areas, as well as the seas and islands.

Mr. Tien outlined VOV’s 2011-2020 development strategy, which includes changing from analog to digital transmission as approved by the Prime Minister, and combining different transmission and broadcasting channels to extend and improve the quality of coverage both at home and abroad.

VOV will also promote technological research and the application of digital technology in its programme production, increase its coverage to 100 percent of the population by 2015, maintain the quality of its three domestic broadcasting channels, and improve the programmes on the VOV Traffic Information channel, he said.

VOV has grown and shown creativity in meeting the requirements of globalization, he said, promising that VOV will strengthen its spirit of unity to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State, and Government and preserve its close friendship with the people.

On the occasion, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan granted the Broadcasting Technology Center the ‘Hero of the Armed Forces’ title to mark VOV’s 66th anniversary and acknowledge its contributions to national construction and defence.

Ms. Doan also awarded the Labour Order, first class to VOV Deputy General Director Dao Duy Hua, and Labour Orders, second class, to VOV staff and units for their out standing achievements, while General Director Tien granted Government certificates of merit to other individuals and units.
