Warm houses of compassion

In recent years, the movement of building Red Cross houses for families having difficult circumstances has receiving much attention from all-level Red Cross in the province. As a result, many households have stable accommodation, contributing to the good implementation of social security policy of the province.

A new Red Cross house is built for a family having particularly difficult circumstance in Thu Dau Mot City.

More and more Red Cross houses

To people, who have particularly difficult circumstances, it is hard to cover everyday needs, they do not even dare to dream about a house. But with enthusiasm, Red Cross staff at grassroots level has grasped these difficult circumstances. To make the dream of poor people come true, after acquiring information about these circumstances, the staff began to call for contributions of benefactors, make a list of poor households and submit to higher Red Cross  for funding.

Nguyen Thi Tranh (born 1933, living in Hiep An ward, Thu Dau Mot City) is one of the most disadvantaged households and has received a new Red Cross house. Thanks to Red Cross staff and support of benefactors, this new house has really provided Ms. Tranh in her sixties with a warm, clean home. The house has an area of 45m2, total construction cost of VND80 million, in which nun Thich Nu Van Tinh of Thien Ton pagoda supported VND50 million, the remaining amount was paid by the family themselves. The date when received the local government's approval  for a new house, happiness and contentment reflected on the face of Ms. Tranh. Bui Ngoc Truc, Chairwoman of Thu Dau Mot City Red Cross, said this was the 2nd house funded by Red Cross  for the poor. The total construction cost of the two houses was VND 180million.

In addition to houses for difficult circumstances in the province, provincial Red Cross also support the construction of houses for poor people in other provinces. From beginning of this year, provincial Red Cross has funded the construction cost of 5 houses outside the province; namely, Tra Vinh Province had 1 house, Tay Ninh Province 2 houses and Binh Phuoc Province 2 houses.

During the last Humanitarian Month, Red Cross of Tan Binh Ward (Di An City) also called for donations, gave gifts to poor people in Chu Prong district, Gia Lai province. In addition to the gifts for students and the poor, Red Cross of Tan Binh Ward also supported VND20 million, together with local government to build a house for a poor household in Siu village, Iame commune. Le Trung Hieu, Chairwoman  of Tan Binh Ward Red Cross, said this financial support was not much but this was a meaningful action, contributing to the connection between people in the plains and the poor people in high mountains.

To help ensure social security

For many years, thanks to the mobilization from all-level Red Cross in the province, many new warm houses have been built in many places. This activity is of utmost practical meaning that helped the poor have good conditions and more motivation to better their lives. In previous years, each new houses was funded with  VND50 million. Since 2019, provincial Red Cross has increased the support by 70 million VND/house. Some donors supported up to 80 million VND/house.

Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, Chairwoman of provincial Red Cross, said the program of build houses for the poor received the attention and donations of many units, organizations, individuals who in and outside the province. "This is an annual program of all-level Red Cross. During the implementation, the program got the attention and was timely directed by provincial leadership, the enthusiasm of Red Cross staff and especially benefactors for difficult circumstances", said Ms. Trinh.

The Red Cross house program has brought better living conditions for the poor. However, there are still some cases without land, thus Red Cross cannot support for the house construction. Therefore, Red Cross at all levels and the people may propose circumstances having difficulties in housing to provincial Red Cross for support, help poor people soon have new homes, stable lives.
