Responding to the “Tet for the poor in Lunar New Year 2013”, the whole country organized to visit and present gifts to policy beneficiaries and the poor on the Lunar New Year (Tet).
Visiting and presenting Tet gifts to policy beneficiaries in Tay Ninh

1. Ho Chi Minh City: 1,500 poor households in remote areas presented Tet
gifts
The Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Vietnam Fatherland Front and the sponsors visited and presented 1,500 Tet gift packages, each worth VND500,000, to 1,500 poor households in remote areas, among them 300 gift packages for the poor in Nhi Binh commune, Hoc Mon district; 400 gifts for the poor in Hoa Phu commune, Cu Chi district; 200 other gifts for Ly Nhon commune and 600 gifts for the poor in Binh Khanh commune, Can Gio district.
Also on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, HCMC sent many delegations to visit and present gifts for social policy beneficiaries in the city.
On January 6th, HCMC, in collaboration with the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, offered 200 Tet presents for 200 poor households and policy beneficiary families facing difficulty in Binh Son district.
The City’s leaders organized delegations to visit and present gifts to revolutionary senior officers, Vietnamese heroic mothers, patriotic personalities, intellectuals, scientists, retired senior officers, typical policy families, the poor, ethnic minorities, those at drug rehabilitation schools and centres, and students without the resources to return home for the Tet holiday.
Beside, the City also provided gifts and cash for households caring for the Can Gio forest, new economic households far from the City, and officials and public servants working in the administrative sectors./.
2. Dong Nai: Handing over 1,000 houses to poor families
The Dong Nai provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee on January 29 handed over 1,000 houses to poor families.
On this occasion, the families were also presented essential furniture and VND1 million.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Duc, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, apart from VND20 billion sponsored by businesses, the 1,000 houses, worth VND40-60 million each, were funded by local individuals and collectives, as well as support from the provincial authorities.
Over the past seven months, the Dong Nai provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and sponsors promoted the building of these 1,000 houses to present to poor families on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year of 2013./.
3. Binh Duong: The Red Cross presents 960 gift packages for policy beneficiaries
Responding to the “Tet for the poor in Lunar New Year 2013” movement, the Binh Duong Provincial Red Cross, in collaboration with the Volunteer Department of the Buddhist Congregation and members of Volunteer Clubs, visited and presented 960 gift packages for policy beneficiaries, the poor, Agent Orange victims and the province’s association of the blind.
The delegation donated 54 gifts for officers and members of Di An communal Blind Association; 145 gift packages for the Blind Association of Thuan An commune; 154 gift packages for the Blind Association of Thu Dau Mot city; 58 gift packages for the Phu Giao district’s Blind Association; 61 gifts for the province’s Blind Association; 200 gifts for policy beneficiary households, the poor and the Agent Orange victims of Binh Thang and Binh An precincts of Di An commune. Each gift was worth VND350,000 for a total cost of VND336 million.
4. Tay Ninh: The Provincial People’s Committee presents Tet gifts for policy beneficiary households, the elderly, workers, civil servants and households under or near the poverty line.
The People's Committee of the Central Highlands province of Tay Ninh has spent more than VND54 billion to support policy beneficiary families, the elderly, workers, civil servants and households under or near the poverty line, during the Lunar New Year 2013.
Tay Ninh province presented 140 Tet gifts worth VND1 million each to typical policy beneficiary families and the elderly.
The policy beneficiaries, officers and civil servants will be provided with VND500,000 per person, while households under or near the poverty line will receive VND100,000 per person.
In addition, social organisations in the province also plan to mobilise financial support to care for the poor, children in difficult circumstances and ethnic minorities.
5. Dong Thap: Free diagnosis and disease treatment for policy beneficiaries and poor households
Dong Thap Health Department organized to present Tet gifts for 85 households who served the revolution well in Thanh My commune, Thap Muoi district, each worth VND400,000. Earlier, the provincial Health Department in collaboration with the general hospital diagnosed and treated diseases at no charge for policy beneficiary and poor households.
6. Hanoi: The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee held a conference in Hanoi on January 16 to implement a plan providing gifts and relief aid to poor people during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday. Under the plan, the VFF will donate more than 11,000 gifts worth 3.34 billion VND to poor households.
7. Lam Dong: The central highland province of Lam Dong earmarked nearly VND17 billion (US$816,000) to present gifts to 90,000 policy beneficiary and poor families and revolutionary contributors in the locality. It is expected they will receive the gifts this month from local authorities.
Approximately 1,500 gifts worth VND450 million (US$21,600), from the local fund for the poor, will be presented to the poor and victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in the northern coastal city of Hai Phong, according to the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front Standing Committee.
8. Da Nang: The Da Nang City People’s Committee approved support for disadvantaged households in the city of 1,185 tonnes of rice, while the neighbouring province of Thua Thien – Hue allocated over VND10 billion (US$480,000) for the poor, needy, and social and policy beneficiaries.
9. Nghe An: The central province of Nghe An mobilised VND211 billion (US$10 million) to support local policy beneficiaries, as well as poor and disadvantaged children and families. Together with gifts from the Party and Government, the amount will be allocated to the targeted people before January 31.
10. Ninh Binh: In northern Ninh Binh Province, the provincial Fatherland Front Committee and Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam gave 130 presents to poor workers and disabled people.
