Thuan An Town People’s Committee just held a meeting and dialogue of provincial leaders with working people and labor unions officials in the grassroots of Thuan An Town. At the meeting and dialogue, the attendants have the opportunities to express themselves and propose consideration for resolutions of possible issues.
Caring by various ways
Huynh Thi Thanh Phuong, Deputy Chair of Thuan An Town People’s Committee informed of populated working people living in town, causing great pressure for local authorities to take care of them; however, local authorities hoave conquered the beforehand challenges to help working people of faraway home lands to settle down. Particularly, in New Lunar Year of the Goat 2015, 2,000 gifts have been given out to factory workers at the cost of VND 1 billion. Besides, Thuan An Town Labor Union offered 400 gifts at the cost of 140 million to workers of harsh circumstances; given 81 passenger transportation tickets to workers of difficulties in getting home for Tet holiday. In the meantime, the union has called upon hostel owners to reduce rents and organize various activities for workers to welcome Tet holiday. Enterprises of the town have also paid transportation fares for 896 workers.
In the month of young factory workers in 2015, the town has organized various entertainment activities for 600 Youth’s League officers, members, and factory workers, female health services to 348 female workers at hostels, free medicines and healthcare with gifts to 200 factory workers of harsh circumstances and gift visits to factory workers suffering from labor accidents.
Immigrant worker population in Thuan An town has been growing along with pressure on Thuan An town authority in taking care of schooling demands of their children. Predicting the such hardship and challenges, Phuong said: “By August 20, 2015, we have nearly 73,000 students preparing for schools which are 10,000 higher than in previous school year. To satisfy the demands of schooling, especially for children of factory workers, we have reduced half-day classrooms and increased hour classrooms. New school constructions and expansion have been established in a bid to offer schooling to all children of schooling age in Thuan An Town and improve knowledge to become good citizen and human resources for the nation future.”
Challenges remained for factory workers
Lives of factory workers have been stable thanks to the care of local authorities regarding their livehood, health status, and education. However, life away from homelands comes with it various burdens while monthly salary is still low, making factory workers I the need of more care for settlement.
They are so concerned for their children’s schooling with yearning wish for higher income and payments of the enterprises. Many can preserve various sums to buy land lots and build their own houses; however, those land lots are not eligible for certificates worrying them much. They also express their great concerns for local security and traffic safety. Nguyen Thi Hang, worker of Sao Viet JSC in Dong An Industrial Park, said: “After work, traffic jam occurs frequently at the gate of our company. We need inference of authorities to ensure safety for us.”
Before the requests and proposals of workers at the meeting with provincial leaders and labor unions, representatives of departments and authorities have appreciated the efforts and elaborate some questions including the overtime working regime. Meantime, those unanswered questions have been forwarded to Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee for consideration and resolution.
