In response to the emulation movement of "The entire nation joins hands to eliminate substandard houses" launched by the Government, provincial Party Committee and Fatherland Front Committee, the youth of Binh Duong have been actively promoting the spirit of volunteerism and community engagement through many practical and specific activities. The repaired homes and newly started construction projects not only provide safe shelters for disadvantaged households, but also instill hope, spread love and reinforce community solidarity.
Spreading love and compassion
In recent days of May, the atmosphere in Lai Thieu ward’s Nguyen Trai residential quarter in Thuan An city became more vibrant with the groundbreaking ceremony of repairing the house of Duong Thi Truc Lan, a young woman facing particularly difficult circumstances. She lost both her husband and mother during the Covid-19 outbreak in 2021 and has since shouldered the burden of raising her two young children alone on a modest factory worker’s salary...The house they live in had seriously deteriorated, leaking heavily whenever it rained. Given this situation, Thuan An city’s Young Entrepreneurs’ Association, in collaboration with Thuan An city’s Youth Union, repaired her house. The total cost of the project was VND 50 million. In addition, Nguyen Chi Toan, Chairman of Thuan An Young Entrepreneurs’ Association, contributed another VND 20 million to help ease the family’s hardship.

In Thuan An city’s An Thanh ward, two newly built houses were also handed over to Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc and Nguyen Thi Phuong. Each house was supported with a construction cost of VND 100 million, funded by Thuan An city’s Young Entrepreneurs Association.
Touching the doors, the walls and the little kitchen of her new home, Mrs. Phuong tearfully said: “I thought this was just a dream—I never imagined I would have a new house. But now, that dream has come true. I am deeply grateful to the local authorities and the Young Entrepreneurs Association for giving me such a beautiful, complete home”.
In the first six months of the year, Thuan An city’s Young Entrepreneurs Association achieved its targets in the campaign to eliminate substandard houses. Mr.Toan shared: “As of now, the Association has basically completed the construction and renovation of five dilapidated homes as assigned by Thuan An city’s People’s Committee. Supporting housing construction for people with difficult circumstances is a key task that we are determined to carry out. These houses are not only places to live, but also meaningful gifts from young entrepreneurs to the poor, workers and vulnerable people, embodying the spirit of compassion and social responsibility. It is hoped that these new houses will serve as a source of motivation, helping those in difficult circumstances to rise above their challenges and move forward in life.
Continuing the journey to build dreams
The youth movement to eliminate substandard houses has not only flourished in Thuan An city, but has also spread to many other localities. In Bau Bang district’s Cay Truong II commune, Bau Bang district’s Youth Union Standing Committee coordinated with the local Steering Committee for the Elimination of Substandard Houses to hand over a renovated house to Ngo Muoi, a poor resident under social protection. Having lived for many years in a dilapidated and leaky house, Mrs. Muoi was deeply moved to finally live in a more spacious and solid home, thanks to the support of the Youth Union and generous donors. The renovation project had a total cost of VND 12 million, focusing on reinforcing the structure to ensure safety during the rainy and stormy season. On this occasion, Nguyen Huynh Nguyen Vy, Secretary of Bau Bang district’s Youth Union, personally handed over a gift package to Mrs. Muoi to show deep care and encouragement. He said: “Mrs. Muoi’s house is the third project we’ve completed in a series of activities launched by the district’s Youth Union since early this year. Each completed project marks a step forward in the journey to completely eliminate substandard houses, representing the united efforts of the Youth Union, local authorities and the society.
In Dau Tieng district, provincial Youth Union, Dau Tieng district’s Youth Union and local authorities held a groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation of Nguyen Thi Thu’s deteriorated house. Ben Cat city’s Youth Union, in cooperation with the Youth Union of Cu Chi district in Ho Chi Minh city and Trang Bang town in Tay Ninh province, held a house handover ceremony for Nguyen Thi Lai’s family in Phu An commune. These collaborations among various units and localities have brought practical benefits to those in need.
It is evident that recent house repair and construction activities have clearly demonstrated the key role of the Youth Union in implementing social welfare programs.
Through each project and each act of service, Binh Duong’s youth have continued affirming their role as pioneers—always standing side by side with the Party and authorities in caring for the lives of the people. |
