Implementing a program concerted by local Youth Union and local department of Natural Resources and Environment, Binh Duong youths conducted activities of environment protection effectively. With plentiful and various forms combined between promulgation work and significant activities, environmental protection activities of youths and unionists have created a good effect for the society and the public, contributing to local socio-economic development.

Promulgation activities on environmental protection (EP), awareness enhancement for youths and unionists have been held flexibly by youth unions at all levels. In the campaigns of the Youth Month, World Environment Day, Volunteer Summer Campaign and so on youth unions at all levels have organized many lively and significant activities to disseminate EP.
In addition, youths’ volunteer spirit for EP has been showed effectively through models, youth works. The most highlighted deed lies in setting up clubs, teams of ‘youths volunteer to protect environment’.
Aside from establishing the volunteer youth team at downtown with 20 members, the local youth union has set up 89 groups of volunteer youths for EP across localities. Through the groups, youths grasp information on environmental situation and ways of promulgation for a clean-green-beautiful environment. In a short time, more than 12,000 youths helped local residents make 120km of rural roads and cleaned streets and so on.
The movements of ‘Volunteer Saturday’, ‘Green Sunday’ have been also organized constantly with the participation of youths and unionists. The movements have focused on making rural roads, cleaning streets, planting and taking care for green trees. Do Ngoc Huy, deputy secretary of local Youth Union, said as planned, the union strives to reach at least one model of EP at every affiliate in 2010.
Its affiliates have conducted 86 youth works worth about VND300mil, luring 20,000 youngsters to dredge 20km of canals, clean 125km of roads, plant about 1,500 green trees. Additionally, 50,000 others collected garbage across markets, steles and localities.
Apart from launching action movements for EP, Huy added, to dedicate to the Youth Union, relevant agencies and the steering board of the project of raising legal knowledge for youths held a writing contest on ‘Binh Duong youths think about environment’. The contest is extended across other provinces to reach effective measures of EP. The contest has so far lured many participants. It is hoped that many new ideas would contribute to change living environment of the public.
Along with significant models, after one month of extending the campaign of using paper bags in replacement of plastic ones, many people have started changing their habit.
Through EP activities, local people and youths’ awareness on EP have been improved, affirming the volunteer role of local Youth Union in implementing the Party’s instructions and policies on EP in particular and socio-economic development in general.
