The construction of new rural areas

The Mua he xanh Campaign of Thu Dau Mot University students took place this year with more than 15 formations from the university to grassroots , including on-site squads to spread across localities in the province and squads in other localities of Hon Quan district in Binh Phuoc province, Duong Minh Chau district in Tay Ninh province, Thanh Phu district in Ben Tre province, Nga Bay city in Hau Giang province among others.

In the Mua he xanh, students of Thu Dau Mot University have left great impressions by the works as parts of "Accompanying the locality to build a new countryside". In Hon Quan district of Binh Phuoc province, the students left their marks with the project of "Lighting up the countryside" by giving away 20 solar light bulbs worth VND 20 million. In Bac Tan Uyen district, students refurbished a rural road with paving stones while clearing the route and planting flowers, totaling at VND 20 million. In Nga Bay city of Hau Giang province, they carried out the project of "Lighting up the countryside" by donating 20 solar light bulbs, repaired and expanded rural bridges, totaling about VND 70 million. In Ben Tre province, they carried out the project of “Concreting rural road” on a length of 1,000m. In addition, the they also worked on the project of "New installation and electrical repairs for people's daily life". With their hands being only used to pens and notebooks, they now have the opportunity to repair electrical outlets, replace damaged light bulbs, or start repairing bridges, serving the travel needs of local people. The campaign has created myriad memories in student life and left a deep impression in the hearts of local people.

Le Van Sau, Chairman of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee of Nga Bay city of Hau Giang province, said: “On behalf of the local authority, I would like to thank Thu Dau Mot University for choosing Nga Bay city to implement the campaign of this year's Mua he xanh. I really appreciate the volunteer spirit of the students who made the atmosphere more bustling by volunteering on the roads with their ‘la blue’ shirts, beautifying many roads, bringing many meaningful works and tasks for local people."

Dr. Ngo Hong Diep, Deputy President of Thu Dau Mot University, said: “In the past few days, students of Thu Dau Mot University have experienced the days of eating, living, working and sharing with the people. The school also appreciates that localities have created the best conditions for students to spend a meaningful summer. The works of ‘volunteer soldiers’ in the localities have nurtured several meaningful values in the future.”

The meaningful actions and works

It is known that the summer 2023 campaign of Thu Dau Mot University has activities that concentrate on the depth of fields, expertise and strengths. In particular, the squads have stayed focus on implementing models and projects of youth participating in building new countryside, urban civilization, maintaining traffic order and safety, and supporting digital transformation for localities.

In particular, in addition to new rural construction projects this year, the campaign also implemented many meaningful new tasks offering to people and giving scholarships, gifts, notebooks, and learning materials to students with disabilities or in difficult circumstances, and gifts to households in harsh circumstances.

Nguyen Thi Thuong, Secretary of the Youth Union of Thu Dau Mot University, said: “The difference of this year's Mua he xanh is the construction of new rural areas. All fronts carried out repairs, road construction, clearing, cleaning, planting flowers, and installing street lights. At the same time, this year volunteers have coordinated with the locality to carry out digital transformation for local people such as installing electronic applications and apps, coordinating and connecting to repair and renew the degraded bridge. On the other hand, due to the schedule, the time of the Mua he xanh took place only in a short time of about 8 days, so the works and parts of the the fronts have been carried out with the fastest possible pace to complete the set out tasks.”

According to Nguyen Thi Thuong, another difference is that the Mua he xanh participants were this year equipped with the most complete skills and knowledge possible by the Campaign Command. During more than a month before the campaign started, every week the students were trained in skills such as first aids, activities for children, teamwork, communication with people, and digital transformation.

“It can be said that the Mua he xanh has promoted the spirit of volunteerism, creating an environment for students to practice, contribute to the community and gradually improve themselves,” Nguyen Thi Thuong said.
