Diverse activities to support workers

In 2025, provincial Labor Union will further coordinate with all-level trade unions and local authorities to implement various activities aimed at improving the lives of trade unionists and workers. These include visiting and giving gifts during holidays and Tet as well as providing support for workers with difficult circumstances, suffering from illness or occupational accidents, with total assistance amounting to hundreds of billions of VND.

Prioritizing support for workers with especially difficult circumstances

According to provincial Labor Union, in the first half of 2025, over 300,000 trade unionists and workers across the province benefited from welfare policies during the Tet holiday, with total spending exceeding VND 327 billion. During the Workers' Month, nearly 78,000 trade unionists and workers received care and support worth over VND 8.8 billion. The fund to support workers with exceptionally difficult circumstances continued being used to visit and aid trade unionists and workers with serious illnesses or those who passed away, due to occupational accidents. In the first six months of the year, the fund provided financial support for 50 cases, totaling VND 466 million.

Ong Thuy Hoang Mai, Vice President of provincial Labor Union stated that in addition to Tet support and Workers' Month activities, provincial Labor Union has directed grassroots trade unions (GTUs) to regularly update the list of trade unionists and workers with difficult situations, with serious illnesses, or victims of occupational accidents, to ensure timely support from provincial fund for workers with extremely difficult circumstances.

GTUs have also collaborated with business owners to support expenses such as rent, transportation, allowances, and tuition assistance for workers’ children. “Overall, each GTU has implemented commendable initiatives to care for workers. As a result, workers have remained mentally stable and confident in the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws”, Mrs. Mai noted.

At businesses with large numbers of trade unionists and workers, GTUs have thoughtfully organized welfare programs, especially for female workers and those facing difficulties. Pham Thi Duyen, Vice President of the GTU at Apparel Far Eastern Co., Ltd. in Thuan An city shared: “The company employs over 4,000 workers, 75% of whom are women. Understanding the challenges faced by many, the GTU organizes skill contests four times a year, allowing workers to demonstrate their abilities and earn incomes that reflect their productivity. As a result, the average income of workers has increased to VND 8million–VND12 million per person per month. For cases of special hardship or illness, the GTU initiates fundraising campaigns across the entire company to provide support. Recreational activities and gift-giving for disadvantaged workers during holidays and Tet are regularly maintained”.

 Since early this year, the GTU of Rochdale Spears Co., Ltd. in Tan Uyen city has closely cooperated with the company’s management to focus on workers' welfare. With more than 5,000 employees, the company maintains an average monthly income of VND 10 million per person. Mai Van Can, Vice President of the GTU shared: “Just in terms of giving gifts to disadvantaged workers and organizing recreational activities for employees on International Women’s Day (March 8), the GTU in coordination with the company, allocated over VND 500 million to support workers. For cases of special hardship, the company always has its own specific support policies in place”.

Diverse activities

In addition to improving workers’ material conditions, building stronger trade union organizations, reducing occupational accidents and signing collective labor agreements that benefit workers have been key focus areas. In the first half of 2025, the province established 131 new GTUs and admitted 30,722 new trade unionists, bringing the total number of GTUs to 4,216 with 814,051 trade unionists. To date, 2,660 out of 3,482 enterprises and units with trade unions have signed collective labor agreements, accounting for 76.39%. Additionally, 3,184 GTUs have successfully negotiated for improved quality of workers' meals, ensuring a minimum of VND 20,000 per meal.

In the first half of the year, trade unions at all levels organized campaigns to disseminate the Party’s policies, the State’s laws and directives from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to 818,131 trade unionists and workers. They also encouraged 341,896 workers to pursue education and skill development; 1,822 GTUs held activities for Workers’ Month. The province saw the establishment of 50 new women’s committees; recognized 1,042 initiatives, models and best practices that generated billions of VND in value; honored 75 collectives and 394 individuals as exemplary role models under the “Excellent and Creative Workers” movement. Over 25,700 people participated in activities at provincial Workers’ Cultural Centers.
