An Son well taps advantages for urban agricultural development

An Son is the only commune of Thuan An town and is also one of the first communes of the province fulfilling all 19 criteria of the new rural construction program. Upholding its geographical advantages, the commune has focused on urban agricultural development and reaped good results in this field.

An Son commune now has a total of more than 377 hectares of faming land or 66% of the local natural land. In recent years, the commune concentrates on urban agricultural models, including the model of growing various orchids with a total area of more than 3,800 square meters.

With its favorable position along Saigon river, An Son commune has been building ecological resorts for tourists, thereby helping more people know about the local land and people. In the situation, farmers play a huge role in upholding the local advantages in terms of soil for better development.

Vo Thi Cam Ha, Chairwoman of An Son communal Farmers’ Association said that over the past years, the local Farmers’ Association helped farmers get loans from many different sources for agricultural production. They were also supported in terms of sci-tech, trademark building and agricultural product consumption.

During the period of 2012 and 2017, the association coordinated with relevant units to organize 45 training courses, seminars on sci-tech transfer in cultivation and animal husbandry; hold 8 trips to effective urban agricultural models…

The association also actively promoted the emulation movement of “good farmers in production-business”. With the above efforts, the whole commune has so far developed a lot of urban agricultural models with hi-economic efficiency, including those of growing ornamental plants, fruit trees…In the period of 2012-2017, the whole commune has a total of 35, 253 and 387 members recognized as good farmers at provincial, town and communal levels, respectively.

Vo Hieu Trung residing in An Son commune’s An Phu hamlet said that he was very proud of the local strong change with people’s lives improved a lot. Since 2009, he has won the “good farmer in production-business” title at provincial level. With the model of growing various fruit trees like mangosteen, durian…, his family can earn hundreds of million of dong every year.

Currently, he focuses on urban agricultural development with new models. His economic models also generate stable jobs for 5 laborers.

An Son is changing vigorously. With their diligence, farmers herein have created agricultural products with hi-economic efficiency, contributing to enhancing their position in the process of national industrialization and modernization.
