An Thai hi-tech agricultural area highlights agro-production

Some products of An Thai hi-tech agricultural area at An Thai commune, Phu Giao district have appeared on the market. The area has created a highlight for the provincial agricultural development.

From initial efficiency

Under the provincial hi-tech agricultural development project, An Thai hi-tech agricultural area is considered as proof for a right selection in building hi-tech agricultural production models on a large scale. Ratified on Aug. 24, 2009, the project is divided into functional areas including a 55ha cultivation area I (orchid, ornamental trees), a 131ha cultivation area II (vegetable, mushroom, flower), a 48ha medical tree growing area, a 104ha seafood and orchard and eco-tourism area, a 4ha research area, a 20 ha service area, a 64ha traffic route and parking lot area. Technology for the project includes IT, bio-technology, new material technology, automatic technology.

After over one year of launching the project, the hi-tech area has completed installment of glasshouse system including water treatment and watering system and automatic fertilizer putting based on Israeli technology. In addition, the project has planted clean and hi-class vegetables on an area of 2ha and completed a cold storage and built an international standard package plant.

At present, the over-400ha area has harvested first products and offered farm produce on the market. Nguyen Thanh Liem, director of U&I Agriculture JSC, the investor of the project, said agricultural production in the future will meet difficulties, so hi-tech agricultural production will be an essential trend. Through pilot growing, the area’ farm produce has offered a very high capacity.

Liem added that the area’ products have met only 20% for the market demand. With the trademark of UNIFARM, the area’s products have appeared across big supermarkets of Big C, Metro, Coopmart… The area has weekly offered about 15 tons of clean vegetables for every units. With a 2ha production area, the area has reaped about VND500mil per month.

Paying attention to local people’s interests

With success of planting clean vegetables, the area has continued to plant medical trees on an area 10ha. In addition, the area has launched a 20ha ornamental tree area. And, with a certification granted by Quacert in early March, 2011, the An Thai hi-tech agricultural area has satisfied conditions to approach international market. This will help bring Binh Duong products to world market.

At present, the area’s workers have enjoyed an average income of about VND3mil per month. From now till the end of this year, the area will build one more glasshouse to increase its production area. Furthermore, the area will continue to study new models for mass production.   

With the done remarkable results, An Thai hi-tech agricultural area has created trust on hi-tech agricultural production in the province. Additionally, once completion, the project will contribute to change the provincial rural image as well as raise people’s awareness on agricultural production in a modern trend.
