Among 18 outstanding farmsteads just awarded the certificates of merit from provincial People’s Committee, many people are very surprised at artisan Nguyen Van Nam’s ornamental creature farmstead that only has a total area of 4,000 sq.m, but brings the annual profit of billions of dong.
Passion brings billions of dong
Nguyen Van Nam is well-known as the artisan winning the most titles in the field of ornamental creature. Noticeably, he has earned billions of dong from his passion.
It is known that Nguyen
Van Nam used to work as a director of Thuan An Civil Engineering-Construction Company

In 1998, he bought an apricot tree valued at VND3mln. Two years later, it was sold at VND20mln after winning high prize at an ornamental creature contest. Since then, he has begun getting involved in growing and trading ornamental trees with the annual average profit reaching billions of dong.
In 2011 alone, with a farmstead only covering 4,000sq.m for growing ornamental and bonsai trees valued at VND5bln, artisan Nguyen Van Nam secured around VND400mln in profit.
Economic development for ornamental creature needed
This is the well-grounded affirmation of artisan Nguyen Van Nam as decoration by ornamental trees is the necessary need, helping human beings relax after stressful working hours.
Economic development for ornamental creature has also become a right track to a locality with fast industrialization and urbanization process like Binh Duong. Along with the process, farming land herein is being shrunk, so the shift of economic structure towards the model of ornament creature is very proper.
Nam said that from initial capital of several millions of dong plus around 12 years getting involved in this field, he now possesses an ornamental tree garden valued at VND5bln. The model does not require great area, so it is very suitable to urban agricultural economy.
But, according to Nam, the model requires determination, diligence and investment capital from artisans. More importantly, they need to continuously research and update how to tend ornamental creature, helping bring high economic efficiency.
