Bach Dang grapefruit –
a farm produce brings high values.
Grapefruit is a key and advantaged tree for Bach Dang communal people. With many proper policies, this kind of tree has become a main plant on this land. Green color of grapefruit tree has drowned other trees’ color and area for rice growing has been gradually narrowed for development of grapefruit.
At present, grapefruit growing area in the commune has reached more than 400ha. Pham Van Hoang, chairman of the communal People’s Committee, said over 84ha of grapefruit under the 100ha speciality grapefruit project have been under good development. The communal People’s Committee has also launched the provincial People’s Committee’s Decision 45/2012/QD-UB on issuing some policies of preserving and developing Binh Duong provincial speciality orchards for the 2013-2016 period. This is an advantaged condition for us to accelerate development of grapefruit tree. Local farmers have paid special attention to the policy.
To reach high results in preserving and improving capacity and quality of grapefruit plantations, the work of training and scientific transfer have been specially paid attention by the communal People’s Committee.
Nguyen Huu Tam, a grapefruit grower in the commune, said “Being participated in training classes and model of grapefruit growing, farmers like us can make high quality and safe products”. Apart from Tam, many farmers at the locality have applied knowledge from training classes into their production.
Aside from advantage of grapefruit tree, Bach Dang has also advantages of developing vegetables. At present, vegetable production value at the commune has reached VND120mil per ha per year. The typical models of safe vegetable growing have been focused to increase their area.
Bach Dang commune has created a collective brand name of “Bach Dang grapefruit” and Bach Dang grapefruit appeared at the Northern market in the last Tet holiday. The communal chairman added “In the coming time, we will continue reinforcing quality of grapefruit gardens as well as developing more areas of this fruit. We specify grapefruit is a key fruit in this locality. Additionally, we will focus on developing eco-tourism. Bach Dang is in need of attention and investment from all level agencies and sectors for the sake of eco-tourism development”.
