Bach Dang pamelo to be qualified by Viet GAP

Brand naming will promote planting buoi da xanh in Bach Dang Islet

Currently, Bach Dang Islet has approximately 400ha of pamelo gardens. By 2010, a project improving gardens for pamelo in Tan Uyen District has been completed with additional 30ha, altogether managed by 119 families. The mentioned project offers seedlings and fertilizers for 3 years of basic garden design. Such farming operation is suitable to needs of farmers in offering no-seed, not very juicy, easy to peel and sweet fruit. Buoi da xanh can retain its green peel when it is ripe.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh, Deputy Chairman of Bach Dang Commune’s Farmer Association, said that farmers are overjoyed for such supports; however, quality of the seedlings are not balanced due to caring techniques varied from farmers to farmers in the first stage of the project. Local People’s Committee has joined up with others to guide farmers to substitute for higher quality seedlings.

New gardens of pamelos in Bach Dang Islet are promising for long-term yields of profits. Being led by Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang, Chairman of Bach Dang People’s Committee, we toured through his garden; however, as asserted by Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang, output prices are of much concerns to local people. As far as this is concerned, he proposed Viet GAP as a solution to brand naming and expansion of Buoi da xanh model. Under Viet GAP standards, people in Bach Dang Islet will produce standardized products which will yield higher prices.
